Position Summary :

Reporting to the Regional Supply Chain Manager the Material Planner is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely purchasing of ingredients and other materials necessary for the day-to-day manufacturing operations of the facility.

This role is crucial in maintaining the flow of materials to support production schedules and meet customer demands.

Major Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Ensuring smooth supply chain function by purchasing raw materials and coordinating with suppliers to meet production demands
  • Address customer service inquiries, clarify their needs, and offer relevant information as required
  • Use demand forecasts to communicate anticipated material needs to suppliers, allowing them to adjust production capacity accordingly
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers for long-term partnerships
  • Tracking inbound POs by coordinating with logistics to ensuring that the POs are delivered on time.
  • Implementing strategies to reduce material waste, spoilage, or obsolescence.
  • Use forecasting tools and ERP systems to generate Material Requirements Planning (MRP) reports based on production schedules and sales forecasts.
  • Identify business optimization opportunities to reduce costs, increase inventory turnover, and drive favorable prices, contracts, and terms with suppliers.
  • Identifying potential risks in the supply chain, such as supplier disruptions or market shortages, and developing contingency plans.
  • Identify opportunities for cost-saving, efficiency improvements, and best practices within the procurement and material planning processes.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery times, and compliance with contracts.

Education and Experience :

  • College degree or equivalent post-secondary education is required.
  • 3+ years of proven work experience in material planning, purchasing or a related field required.
  • Previous material planning experience in food manufacturing facility preferred.
  • Supply chain / purchasing certification a plus.

Knowledge and Skills :

  • Ability to manage relationships with external vendors.
  • Working knowledge with a formalized MRP or ERP system; preferably JD Edward.
  • Purchasing, scheduling, or general planning within enterprise tools (JD Edwards highly preferred, experience with SAP, JDA, or other similar).
  • Proven analytics (high Excel proficiency & data manipulation competency).
