Chief Financial Officer

Waterloo, Ontario

Karis Disability Services is seeking a dynamic Chief Financial Office to lead our financial operations and drive strategic initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in non-profit finances, a passion for our mission and the ability to optimize resources to enhance service delivery for people with disabilities.

The transition for this position is part of a detailed succession / retirement plan put in place to allow for a collaborative and seamless transition from the incumbent over a one-year period.

The Chief Financial Officer embraces the Christian Faith Foundation of the organization; ensures the Christian ethos and the Values, Vision and Mission permeate their job responsibilities;

and personally commits to the expectations as outlined in the Statement of Faith.

Responsibilities include :

Professional Leadership

  • Responsible to develop and deliver Christian faith-informed perspectives on financial issues and practices relevant to the organization.
  • Responsible to provide analysis and recommendations when financial, or legal standards and practices conflict or appear to conflict with elements of the Karis Disability Services' Faith Foundation, Values, Vision and Mission or the interests of its membership.

Department and Organizational Leadership :

  • Provides oversight and direction to the Finance, Procurement and Legal departments establishing accountability structures consistent with the Christian Ethos of the organization and ensuring that Karis Disability Services' Values, Vision and Mission and Service Principles are realized throughout the activities and actions of the departments.
  • Provides counsel and advice to the CEO and Senior Leadership on financial management, and legal affairs management matters about all related Karis Disability Services legal entities.
  • Directs with Senior Leadership the organizational Strategic Priorities and the development of the Strategic Plan.
  • Ensure direct reports formulate Department operating plans to achieve relevant outcomes identified in the Strategic Plan in their areas of focus.
  • Ensures customer-service oriented culture pervades the Finance Department.
  • Ensure Karis Disability Services complies with all regulatory bodies.

Continuous Improvement and Change Management

  • Lead the organization proactively to ensure new and leading opportunities are implemented.
  • Responsible to evaluate and approve policies and procedures in Finance, and Legal Affairs
  • As part of the Senior Leadership team ensures the team remains apprised of all areas of responsibility, drawing specific attention to situations and developments that require particular consideration and direction.
  • Compiles statistical research information to recommend action and direction to Senior Leadership.
  • Researches and prepares information, analyses, proposals, speaking notes, or reports for the Board of Directors and / or attends Board meetings when requested by the CEO or Chair of the Board of Directors.

Provincial and Community Networking

  • Maintain and improve Karis Disability Services' position as a viable service provider through strengthening contact with MCSS and other provincial and federal government ministries and related agencies.
  • Works with partners of similar organizations, professional organizations, or other faith-based groups to create systems that serve the interest of the Karis Disability Services and its mission.
  • Responsible to advance the ministry of Karis Disability Services within the Christian Community by developing and delivering presentations about the organization at gatherings of the Christian Community, soliciting support, promoting Karis Disability Services' Faith Foundation & theology of disability or encouraging the Christian community to create places of belonging.

Requirements :

  • Ten years experience in a leadership role in Financial Management
  • CPA Designation
  • Masters Degree in Business, MBA
  • Demonstrated communication, motivational, delegation and leadership skills
  • Frequent travel required
