Reporting to the Executive Director, Medical Imaging, the Director, Informatics and Data is a member of the Medical Imaging Leadership Team under the Provincial Medical Imaging Office (PMIO).
This position is responsible and accountable for developing collective provincial strategies that will drive the Medical Imaging system forward.
Working in close collaboration with the senior administrative team members from across all health authorities (HAs), they provide leadership and strategic direction to ensure high quality and effective delivery of integrated Medical Imaging services and the informatics needed to support program / service delivery and plans across the system.
The Director is the primary administration link to HAs and the PMIO for matters of Information Management Informatic Technology (IMIT);
a vital team member ensuring that services are designed in a way which best meets the regional needs of patients and physicians, with the aim to improve service delivery system-wide.
The Director will work closely with the PMIO Medical Lead for Informatics radiologist or practitioner), to account for clinical practice and impacts to clinicians and the patients, and will manage a team project manager(s), business analyst(s), clinical informaticist(s) and contracted project or technical staff).
The Director chairs and organizes the provincial Informatics Committee to facilitate province-wide planning and solutions that meet end-user requirements, and works closely with leadership from all HAs and the Ministry of Health (MoH) to implement system-wide changes and standardized system-wide requirements, which may include provincially prioritizing initiatives, coordinating resources and securing resources for provincial deployment, and securing the necessary approvals working with HA partners.
In addition to directing and leading staff under the PMIO and with HA, the Director works with colleagues and key internal and external partners to develop and deploy effective informatics initiatives to improve the delivery of Medical Imaging.

Duties / Accountabilities :
- Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of effective province-wide strategies and initiatives that ensure integrated and sustainable Medical Imaging programs and services consistent with established priorities and the vision, values and strategic direction of the PMIO, the MoH and HAs as well as standards set out by accreditation and other regulatory bodies.
- Collaboratively develops effective and efficient plans with all partners that are transformational in nature to advance an integrated Medical Imaging system, including setting the strategic direction with the MoH, HAs, and partners such as Community Imaging Clinics to build a system that is integrated, standardized, supports transmission of information and images across boundaries, and yields high value, high integrity data that will be utilized to improve service delivery and care.
- Builds successful collaboration with regional and HA team members to ensure integration of services to support the delivery of high-quality health care, improve patient access, facilitate efficient flow of patient data across the care continuum to sustain high-quality services.
- Defines an effective system of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that will yield a systemic view on the provincial performance of Medical Imaging;
collaborates with HAs and MoH to develop a reporting framework for KPIs and provide regular status reports; KPIs for the province may include data related to workforce, equipment, waitlists, and quality.
- Collaborates with MoH and HAs in the development of capital and project budgets for Medical Imaging initiatives required to transform the system.
- Develops and monitors fiscal spending for approved projects and budgets. Fulfills periodic status reports and accounting reports on projects.
Monitors budget performance, planning and adjusts operations and introduces mitigating strategies as required to deliver successfully on projects.
Implements effective performance management processes and provides direction, guidance, and cross-HA and across-site leadership to a designated group of unionized staff, including those that have supervisory responsibilities, within a multi-site environment;
ensures that the culture is one in which individual competencies can thrive.
Provides leadership, coordination, and guidance provincially for adherence to data information standards, including privacy and risk tolerances and identification.
Ensures clarification of roles, adherence to accreditation and practice standards, and compliance with legislation and safety standards related to informatics to provide a healthy and safe environment for patients and staff.
Promotes research and education initiatives and opportunities for partnerships. Liaises with research agencies to facilitate best practice service delivery.
Works with medical staff and professional disciplines on the development and promotion of professional standards, education, and research.
- Provides strong linkages and alignment of activities with agencies such as HAs, Public Health, Indigenous Health, First Nations Health Authority, local governments, and other groups, including MoH, in order to facilitate a continuum of health services.
- Creates an environment of evidence-based practice that encourages participation in research, fosters personal growth and supports opportunities for teaching and education of students and staff where appropriate.
Qualifications :
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in a relevant health care discipline, business, or informatics and technology, supplemented with leadership and management courses, plus ten (10) year's recent, related experience in progressively more senior management / leadership roles within a large unionized health care environment, including direct supervisory experience of large diagnostic imaging operations and / or projects that encompass complex, multiple-invested party accountability structures.
Excellent communication skills to function within a complex interdisciplinary environment including ability to communicate with the physician community.
Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external partners to create provincial informatic plans that will transform the system.
Broad knowledge of the current provincial medical imaging system, the limitations, and the opportunities for creating an integrated system that improves quality, fulfills regulatory requirements, and supports Medical Imaging staff, physicians, and for the service of patients.

provides feedback and detailed analysis on budget variances and makes recommendations for corrective action. Keeps informed on evolving trends and practices, shares knowledge, and supports staff to integrate evidence-based practice in the delivery of quality care / services.
Experience with Picture Archiving Communication Systems, Microsoft Power BI, business architect mapping, data transmission / extraction / analytical methodologies and tools would be an asset.
