Job description

Project

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Woodfibre Management Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited.

Position

The Finance / Claims Specialist is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG ’s dynamic team. You will assist in the estimation and quantification of claims under EPC contracts. The ideal candidate will have a background in financial analysis and claims management and experience providing dispute and litigation support. The role involves collaborating with various teams, analyzing data and driving organizational and financial efficiency and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities :

The successful applicant will perform the following :

Claims Quantification :

  • Analyze and evaluate costs associated with EPC projects, including budgets, contracts and change orders, to determine the validity of claims and disputes.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates and justifications for claims related to delays, disruptions and cost overruns.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of project schedules and financial data to determine the financial impact of change orders and other claims.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify potential claims early and establish proper documentation and quantification methodologies.

Claims Management :

  • Review and assess claims in accordance with EPC contractual terms and industry standards.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in claims.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation related to claims, including supporting evidence, status tracking and approvals.
  • Provide opinions and analysis to support claims validity during disputes or litigation.
  • Financial Analysis and Reporting :

  • Perform detailed analysis of claims-related financial data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare financial reports, summaries and presentations for management review.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting activities related to claims and associated costs.
  • Compliance and Risk Management :

  • Ensure all claims are compliant with legal, regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Identify potential risks or issues in the claims process and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with legal teams to address complex or disputed claims.
  • Stakeholder Coordination :

  • Work closely with project management, procurement and finance teams to ensure seamless communication regarding claims.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, contractors and other external partners.
  • Process Improvement :

  • Evaluate current claims and financial processes and recommend efficiency enhancements.
  • Develop and implement best practices for claims processing and financial tracking.
  • Dispute Support :

  • Assist legal teams with gathering, organizing and presenting financial evidence and analysis for construction disputes.
  • Prepare documentation and presentations for arbitration, mediation or court proceedings.
  • Requirements

    Required Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field.
  • A professional certification (e.g., CPA, CFA, CCP, CFCC or equivalent) is a plus.
  • 3-7 years of experience in claims quantification, financial analysis or related fields.
  • Experience in construction, insurance or project-based industries is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools (e.g., SAP, Excel or equivalent)
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of contracts, claims processing and compliance regulations.
  • Familiarity with litigation support and legal aspects of construction disputes and claims.
  • Additional Requirements :

  • Experience working with large multi-disciplinary teams and contractors in a multicultural environment is an asset.
  • Accepts responsibility and demonstrates a commitment to the delivery of tasks and targets.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be Innovative and vision-oriented with demonstrated ability to undertake strategic planning and implementation.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and change priorities within tight time frames.
  • Demonstrates and seeks accountability within the team.
  • Expertise with a variety of computer programs, including Microsoft suite of programs.
  • Motivated and willing to take ownership of tasks.
  • Energetic in pursuit of continuous improvement processes.
  • Shares knowledge readily and encourages personal development.
  • A valid driver’s license and passport.
  • As required, the position is based in Vancouver, BC, with travel to the Calgary Office and EPC contractor's office in Houston, Squamish (site), Ottawa and others.
  • A valid driver’s license and passport.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • This role will be a combination of office and site based.
  • The position is based in Company’s Calgary and Vancouver Offices as required.
