We are seeking an experienced and dynamic HR Operations Specialist to join our Edmonton, Alberta head office. This role will commence in October 2024, providing support and leadership during a 1-year maternity leave, with a guaranteed transition to a permanent position thereafter.
The HR Operations Specialist will play a critical role in managing day-to-day HR operations, ensuring seamless HR services across both unionized and non-unionized environments.
Key Responsibilities :
- HR Operations Management : Oversee the day-to-day HR operations, including employee relations, performance management, and compliance across unionized and non-unionized environments.
- Union and Non-Union Coordination :
- Union Interactions : Manage all tasks associated with interactions with the union, including handling grievances, preparing for and participating in arbitration, and ensuring compliance with collective agreements.
- Grievance Handling : Investigate and resolve grievances in a timely manner, working closely with union representatives to find mutually acceptable solutions.
- Arbitration Preparation : Prepare for arbitration cases by gathering evidence, coordinating with legal teams, and representing the company’s interests during hearings.
- Contract Negotiations : Assist in the negotiation and renewal of collective agreements, ensuring that company policies align with union requirements.
- Relationship Building : Foster positive relationships with union representatives to maintain a collaborative working environment.
- Talent Acquisition and Onboarding : Lead the recruitment process, from job postings to onboarding new hires.
- Employee Development : Design and implement training programs and career development initiatives to support employee growth.
- HR Systems and Analytics : Utilize the Findd HR system and other data analytics tools to drive informed decision-making and optimize HR processes.
- Policy Implementation : Assist in the development, communication, and enforcement of HR policies and procedures.
- Maternity Leave Coverage : Serve as the acting HR Manager during the current HR Manager’s maternity leave, ensuring continuity of HR services.
- Provincial Oversight : Oversee HR operations across the entire province of Alberta, which may require some travel.
Qualifications :
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in HR operations, with significant experience in a unionized environment.
- Proven ability to manage HR processes and systems effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions in a dynamic setting.
- Experience with HR software, particularly the Findd system, is preferred but not required.
- CHRP or other relevant HR certification is an asset, but not required.
- Driver's license is preferred as the role may require travel to job sites for HR investigations and / or training.
- In-office presence at our Edmonton, Alberta, head office is required.
