Why is this role important?

This posting may be used to fill multiple Senior Analyst positions (both permanent and contract) within the Primary Health Care Strategy and Data Advancement branch.

The Senior Analyst will contribute to the full range of activities involved in the data quality, analysis and reporting of various primary health care information projects, with a focus on PHC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) data.

These activities include : participating in project plan development, conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses in the context of data quality assessment, making data meaningful and findings interesting, literature reviewing, report writing, project tracking, synthesis and presentation of information.

In this role, the Senior Analyst will liaise with internal and external stakeholders and data providers on a variety of subjects.

What you'll do

1.Performs data manipulation and statistical analyses. This requires the use of analytical techniques to produce outputs from EMR data, administrative databases and other sources.

2.Responsible for the production and dissemination of data quality and proof of concept analytical products, including but not limited to data analysis, data verification, drafting reports and preparing presentations.

3.Applies rigorous data quality approaches to understand and assess the quality of the PHC EMR data. Works collaboratively with CIHI’s Information Quality program, as required.

4.Contributes to activities related to PHC indicators, including working with internal and external stakeholders.

5.In close collaboration with other staff, prepares and contributes to literature reviews, and the writing and production of data quality and analytical reports and related material, as required.

6.Assists in idea generation, drafting project plans and progress tracking. Ensures quality of products and activities are aligned with CIHI standards (e.g. quality, privacy, etc.).

7.Develops and maintains knowledge of CIHI’s data holdings, related data by other organizations, and tools used by CIHI to access these data holdings and related analyses.

Develops comprehensive and integrative knowledge of programs and services across CIHI and other relevant programs across Canada.

8.Participates on project teams as required and assists in the development and maintenance of the project plans, conducting ad hoc analyses as necessary and providing content expertise.

9.Represents the team, department and the organization internally / externally, including participation on committees, presentations and / or attendance at conferences and other activities as required.

What you'll bring to the table

Undergraduate degree in epidemiology, statistics, health information sciences, social sciences or similar field, or equivalent education / experience.

A graduate degree would be an asset.

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years professional experience in a health care research, policy or service setting, including experience in quantitative analysis.
  • Experience conducting analyses using statistical software in Python is a requirement. Experience with SAS or R is an asset.
  • In depth experience analyzing CIHI’s data holdings. Experience working with PHC EMR data an asset.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to write for a variety of audiences. The ability to write clearly, straightforward and in an engaging manner.
  • Good conceptual understanding of how standards support data quality and health system management and how clinical and administrative data (i.

e. data collected and housed by CIHI) can be used to support health policy and system planning.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality work within a multidisciplinary, highly productive team with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including development / maintenance of project Gantts. Knowledge of Microsoft Project an asset.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills (demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities).
  • Fluency in English required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of any of the following is an asset :
  • Relevant standards, such as ICD-9 / 10, SNOMED, LOINC.
  • EMR vendor systems, such as Telus Health EMR products, QHR Accuro, etc.
