The Controller is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting within a multiple company organization. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.

The Controller supervises the accounts payable and credit / collection activities. This position faces tight deadlines and carries out a multitude of accounting activities including financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily accounting activities
  • Ensure timely closure of the month-end procedures
  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Preparation of the financial reporting package that is communicated to the leadership group on a monthly basis
  • Management of the consolidated financial statements and intercompany transactions within the corporate structure
  • Develop and manage annual budgets and financial forecasts, tracking performance against established financial goals
  • Establish and maintain the standard costs for various manufacturing processes and products as well as overseeing the cost accounting team
  • Using analytical tools, conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks, and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operation
  • Ensure compliance with all accounting standards, tax regulations, and legal requirements. Manage all audits, both internal and external as well as the preparation of the corporate income tax return
  • Ensure GST / TVQ, State Sales taxes, and income tax installments are reported and paid within prescribed deadlines
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of all financial KPI’s
  • Strengthen internal control processes in line with changes within the organization
  • Support Director of Finance with special projects and workflow process improvements
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed
  • Handle HR related issues including the professional development of staff.
  • Participate in special financial projects as needed, providing financial expertise and insights

  • At ease with data visualization software such as Power BI considered an asset
  • Able to communicate fluently in both French and English (written and spoken)
  • Comfortable with Office 365 tools, including advanced knowledge of Excel

Experience and Training

  • BA / BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting, CPA required
  • Minimum 5-6 years of pertinent experience, preferably in the manufacturing
  • Understanding of cost account
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Business Central and PowerBI an asset
