REQ : PHC22-137288 Work Area : CFE Base Site : 625 Powell City : Vancouver Status : Casual FTE : 0 Wage : $46.27-57.86 Job Category : Psychology Post date : 15-Oct-22 Category : Mental Health Hours : 0830-1630

We currently have room for 1-2 psychologists at the Hope to Health primary care community practice in Vancouver. This is a cutting-edge, research-driven primary care clinic that serves Vancouver’s most vulnerable.

The psychologist would act as a behavioural health consultant for individuals being seen for primary care in the clinic, but there is room for much more than direct clinical work.

The previous psychologist in this role engaged in teaching and consultation. The team also has enormous openness for the individual to have dedicated research time.

Even if you have only limited experience in primary health care, this is an excellent opportunity to learn in the context of a high-functioning team.

The team would ensure that you have access to training and support to develop competence and excellence in this area. Primary care psychology is an exciting role, with behavioural health consultants typically seeing patients for brief sessions and with a solution-focused lens.

If you are the kind of psychologist who values learning and innovation, this may be the role for you. This opportunity works collegially with our current p / t Psychologist(s).

This is an exciting position on the very caring and competent team at the Hope to Health Research & Innovation Centre on the Downtown Eastside in Vancouver.

Having a psychologist in primary care is an emerging and exciting area in British Columbia that is set to expand in the future as the province moves to more integrated care models.

The team at Hope to Health cares for people from all walks of life with direct access to primary health care including mental and behavioural healthcare.

The clinic also houses research teams, several specialists (e.g. psychiatry, infectious disease etc.), social workers, a safe injection site, and integrates quality improvement into every aspect of clinic operations.

The care model for psychology is based on Primary Care Behavioural Health (PCBH) model in which the psychologist is an integrated member of the team who sees patients alongside other providers.

After a warm handoff (where the provider introduces the psychologist to the patient) the psychologist meets clients for 15 minutes up to 30 minutes as the initial appointment.

These appointments sometimes involve psychoeducation, motivational interviewing about their goals, and most often have an intervention within the first encounter.

If clients wish for more support, recurring sessions (30 mins) can be booked that are focused on helping with specific behavioural issues (i.

e. lifestyle behaviour change such as diet, sleep, and exercise), and mental health issues (e.g., MDD, Anxiety disorders, PTSD).

This is a position for psychologists who enjoy a fast-paced environment, brief assessment / intervention, love working in a team of like minded people, and who want to help the most vulnerable populations.

Organizational leadership and the team strongly support psychology and see it as central to their service delivery model.

For more information about this position, please contact Dr. Theo Elfers, R. Psych, the PHC practice leader for psychology, at [email protected].
