Senior Report Developer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Report Developer to lead the end-to-end design, modeling, and implementation of business intelligence reports and interactive dashboards. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional business partners, technical leads, and stakeholders to translate complex operational requirements into high-performing Power BI solutions. Working across relational databases, cloud ecosystems, and disparate data sources, you will profile, transform, and structure data to enable self-service analytics and empower decision-making across key operational initiatives.

Location: Toronto, ON (Fully Onsite – 5 days/week required)

Duration: 12-month contract.

Responsibilities
Power BI & Dashboard Engineering: Design, engineer, format, and deploy intuitive, high-performing Power BI reports and dashboards tailored for both executive leadership and operational teams.

Data Modeling & Schema Design: Develop, maintain, and optimize scalable dimensional data models, relationships, and schemas that ensure data integrity and query efficiency.

ETL & Data Transformation: Extract, profile, clean, and load data from diverse sources using M, DAX, and Power Query, selecting appropriate storage modes and connection types.

Cloud & Database Integration: Connect Power BI reports to SQL Server, Azure services, and cloud data platform components, managing data refresh schedules and dataset governance.

Performance Optimization: Analyze and tune Power BI performance across complex DAX measures, relationships, data imports, and report visuals.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Requirements: Facilitate discovery discussions with technical and non-technical stakeholders to analyze, document, and translate business needs into actionable BI solutions.

Testing & Quality Assurance Support: Support quality assurance and testing teams during unit, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT) phases to validate report accuracy.

Documentation & Knowledge Transfer: Author comprehensive technical documentation, report specifications, and data flow diagrams, providing knowledge transfer for ongoing operational support..



Qualifications
Power BI Developer Seniority: Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience as a Microsoft Power BI Report Developer building enterprise business intelligence reports and dashboards (Strictly Required).

Core BI Language Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise writing and optimizing M code, DAX calculations, and Power Query transformations (Strictly Required).

Microsoft Cloud & Power Platform: Practical experience working within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem (including Power BI Service, Azure Data Factory) and the broader Power Platform (Strictly Required).

SQL Server & Dataset Management: Proven experience working with SQL Server, Power BI datasets, direct queries, import modes, and data refresh configurations (Strictly Required).

Data Modeling Expertise: Demonstrated, hands-on experience in data modeling and visualization across diverse schemas and business intelligence implementation methodologies (Strictly Required).

Stakeholder Communication: Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and documentation skills with a proven ability to translate business needs into technical BI specifications.
