About the Role
The Legal Editor
- Creates and classifies legal information in the form of headnotes, historical notes, abstracts / synopses, headings, analysis, indexes, highlights, and other text.
- Reviews and edits legal information created by other employees, authors, freelancers and others.
- Identifies key legal issues in editorial materials.
- Adheres to editorial publishing schedules and quality standards.
- Consults with multiple departments regarding the business aspects of publications as required.
- Verifies own work and that of colleagues and external contributors as required for accuracy, completeness, and quality and ensures that the information is properly presented and organized.
- Maintains and develops legal knowledge and skills training as required to complete work and stay current on legal trends and developments related to the employee’s editorial responsibilities.
- Participates in the employee evaluation process (both wider feedback and self-evaluation).
About You
You’re a fit for the role of Legal Editor if your background includes :
JD required
Admission to a provincial bar preferred
Knowledge of French will be considered an asset
1 3 years of legal experience preferred
Strong legal research skills with experience using Westlaw and other legal research tools
Ability to interpret, analyze, organize, and express complex legal material quickly and accurately
Ability to effectively handle and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a quickly changing environment
Ability to work independently, consistently meet deadlines, and achieve individual objectives within larger team projects
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong computer skills including applications such as Adobe and the Microsoft Office applications : Word, Excel and Outlook
