We are Hiring a Director of Engineering on behalf of Mandarin Oriental

Purpose of Position

It is the mission and intent of this position that the incumbent will take full responsibility in the maintenance, repairs and safe operation of all technical services in accordance with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group standards, policies and procedures to always achieve optimum operating efficiency and guest comfort.

Furthermore, this position provides continuous leadership and guidance on all FLHSS&E matters as well as Security of the property by developing and implementing risk management evaluations which will follow MOHG FLHSS&E guidelines, as well as, ensures compliance with all country and local regulations.

Organisational Structure

The position report to the hotel’s General Manager. Additionally, the position reports to the MOHG Corporate Director of Engineering on a functional basis.

Position Objectives

The Director of Engineering ‘s role is to coordinate and control all Engineering, FLHSS&E, Landscaping with a clear focus in providing a balanced service to meet the needs of the physical property, our customers and colleagues.

The incumbent is expected to actively participate in the general day to day operation of the department leading, mentoring, training and educating the engineering team.

The Director of Engineering is responsible for the financial management of the property operation and maintenance expenses and for utilities consumption.

Duties and Supporting Responsibilities

· Maintain in a proper and safe condition all buildings, plant, plant rooms, equipment, landscaping, front and back of house areas.

· Establish and implement “Safe and Sound” procedures such as the Fire, Life, Health, Safety and Security, Emergency and Standard Operating Procedures in compliance with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group standards.

· Ensure all work carried out for the hotel is in compliance with the relevant statutory requirements, regulations and codes.

· To be fully conversant with The Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino Emergency Procedures.

· Perform “Emergency Response Team” duties as required.

· Chairperson for the Risk Management meeting

· Be appointed as the Fire & Safety manager for the property.

· Actively initiate and support all training programs and initiatives.

· Directly oversee and control the activities of the Engineering team.

· Oversee the selection of engineering outsourced companies and services.

· Participate in the formulation of strategic business plans for the hotel.

· Formulate and implement strategic development for the hotel’s involvement in the local community.

· Develop and implement the preventative maintenance programs in accordance with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group guidelines.

· Participate in Executive Committee and other meetings as required.

· Establish and manage the annual CapEX plan and budget for all aspects of engineering.

· Oversee the strategic direction of general projects related to the enhancement of the hotel. Project management covers the areas of planning, administration, implementation and evaluation of financial results of projects.

· Support the Director of Fiance in the hotel’s overall financial performance; the annual hotel budget process; the energy and cost consumption; and the engineering contractor’s selection and documentation.

· Support the Director of P&C in their strategy for the recruitment and selection of employees; career development programs for employees; labor cost management; community programs; and the evaluation and recognition of employees.

· Support the IT&T Director in telecommunications upgrades and enhancements; annual maintenance of the contingency systems that support IT&T equipment and systems; and the annual testing and conformance of emergency power systems based on Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group guidelines.

· Support the Operations team on the training and demonstration of various systems such as the key system for guest rooms, audio visual equipment, lighting and temperature and control systems, etc.

· Regularly meet with Department Heads to ensure we are meeting their needs.

· Ensure strict record keeping is well always maintained.

· Liaise with builders, consultants and contractors.

· Participate in the Repairs and Maintenance, Project and Risk Management Committee meetings as required.

· Conduct regular inspections of all front and back of house areas to ensure the quality and standards are maintained at the highest level.

· Ensure all drawings, manuals and documentation is updated as and when changes are made.

· Ensure all certifications, test reports, inspections and maintenance reports are properly stored and updated.

· Prepare tender documents.

· Be fully conversant with all technical details of all plant and services relating to the hotel.

· Assist engineering personnel with technical advice and ensure standards are maintained.

· Prepare budgets, forecasts and costings.

· Actively assist with energy conservation and control.

· Oversee the activities of service and project contractors.

· Maintain contact with local authorities and Government Departments such as the Fire Service Department, Electrical and Mechanical Service Department, Water Supply Department, Building Ordinance Office, Drainage Department, Labour Department, Environmental Protection Department, to ensure that all requirements are being complied with and that assistance or advice will be readily available whenever required.

· Evaluates individual employee performance, determines areas in need of improvement or requirements for advancement, establishes goals, objectives and training needs required to achieve them.

· Evaluates changes in guest needs, the hotels guest mix and industry competitive set, to recommend appropriate product/service and operational changes necessary to ensure guest and employee satisfaction, while maintaining market dominance and exceptional financial prospects.

· To ensure all company financial standards and audit requirements are adhered to at all times.

· To carry out any other reasonable request as directed by your General Manager.

Health and Safety

· To be aware of, and comply with, safe working practices as laid down under Company H & S Manual, as applicable to your place of work. This will include your awareness of any specific hazards at your work place.

· To be aware of and comply with Food Hygiene Standards.

· To wear any appropriate protective clothing provided by or recommended by the Hotel.

· To report any defects in the building, plant or equipment according to the Hotel procedures.

· To ensure any accidents to colleagues, guests or visitors are reported in accordance with Hotel procedures.

· To attend statutory fire training and to be fully conversant with and abide by all rules concerning, fire, health & safety.

· To attend any training deemed appropriate by your Head of Department.

· To elect a departmental health & safety representative.

· To ensure H&S representative attends all meetings

· To undertake responsibility for supervising, training and instructing colleagues in terms of H & S.
