Arcadis is seeking casual employees to work mostly night shifts and weekends at the City of Toronto at the RESCU Traffic Operations Centre, Don Mills Road, Toronto, ON for managing their day-to-day operations responsibilities.
As a TOC Operator at the City of Toronto Traffic Operations Centre, you'll be responsible for operating a variety of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices and information systems.
Your primary duties will include monitoring roadways for ongoing traffic movements, incidents, dispatching and coordinating with First Responders, disseminating traveler information, and managing database entries.

Role responsibilities :
- Operate ITS devices and information systems on a multi-monitor computer workstation working with critical data that informs the safe operation of the city transport infrastructure.
- Monitor roadways for traffic incidents and coordinate with First Responders in a timely, professional and concise manner.
- Disseminate traveler information and manage real-time data entry database.
- Work in a 24 / 7 / environment with flexible shift times, including holidays.
- Working on a as-needed basis with a possibility to convert to working on a part-time basis
Dispatching City staff and contracted crews for routine and emergency road traffic maintenance activities.
Collect, review, validate, and disseminate road restriction / closure information to the public, with the aim of causing the least disruption to the general public.
Starting pay is $19 hr.
Qualifications
- High school or GED Diploma
- Candidate must have in-depth experience with Windows PCs and proficient in the use of a multi-monitor computer workstation with the ability to quickly enter and manage a real-time data entry database.
- In-depth knowledge of the Toronto geography and roadway network.
- Skills in interpersonal relationships and ability to work well within a diverse group.
- Confidence to use freeway management and other traffic control computer application and technologies such as cameras, variable message signs, sensors, and control devices.
- Be self-motivated with the use of these systems to maintain a situational awareness on the City's entire road network.
- Previous experience of writing reports, and correspondence will be considered an asset, although support and development will be offered to all successful applicants on this topic
- Ability to coordinate real time activities and stay calm in the face of conflicting priorities.
- Confident to take calls, dispatch on a radio or telephone and otherwise communicate in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to use sound judgement while collecting, reviewing, validating, and disseminating road restriction / closure information to the public and always communicate professionally.
