The Actuarial manager is responsible for a highly technical team's leadership, maintenance and growth. Our ideal candidate will provide technical support and development opportunities to their team based on their actuarial and / or data science expertise.
This role supports our data science requirements across diverse projects impacting one or several key business areas : Data Science, Commercial Lines, Personal Lines, Claims, Marketing and Fraud Management.
Our priority is understanding key business areas and executing on opportunities where Data Science can accelerate growth, increase profitability, and reduce operational costs at Aviva. The manager's responsibilities extend to seeking opportunities and supporting products and other output from inception to production.

What you'll do :
Support and develop a high-performing technical team focused on data science.
Provide learning and growth opportunities to the team based on the manager's technical proficiency in actuarial and data science.
Oversee the development of data science products, models and other data-driven outputs while supplying in a technical capacity when vital.
Ensure tight-knit collaboration with all relevant partners, technical teams, and users across the organization.
Straddle the worlds of insurance professionals, data scientists and engineers to prioritize data-driven solutions.
Work closely with business partners to understand day-to-day challenges and key areas of opportunity for innovation and growth.
Frequent communication with the business lead and managers of business areas impacted by their work.
Direct communication with users of insights, tools and processes.
Engage directly with users, empathize with their experience, and use data to advise decisions.
Provision of data innovation, support, and insights to our key business areas.
Model monitoring to ensure the ongoing quality of pricing models.
The development of tools that give non-technical users accesses to ingestible data & insights.
Smoother integration of data science into crucial business areas, either as novel entries or improvements to existing processes or tools.
Communicating and presenting data science solutions, results, and outcomes up to a VP level.
What you'll bring
Undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science, Data Science or other related fields, or equivalent experience.
At least five years of experience working in an Actuarial Science or Data Science driven organization or team.
Demonstrable experience leading technical professionals in managerial or senior technical roles are preferred.
Ideal candidates have experience in applying data science and / or computer science in the P&C insurance space.
Expert proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Python. A proficiency is sufficiently strong enough to mentor.
Excellent communication skills and comfort communicating sophisticated ideas appropriately for senior leadership and non-technical audiences.
Understanding of UI / UX design and how it impacts the user experience.
Ability to assess and improve the usability and design of a solution.
