Job Description

Arcadis is involved with City of Toronto at the RESCU Traffic Operations Centre, 703 Don Mills Road, Toronto, ON for managing their day-to-day operations responsibilities.

At a Supervisory role at Traffic Operations Centre of City of Toronto, you'll play a strategic and tactical role for delivering the visionary plans for the betterment of traffic situations in the city.

You will also oversee the daily operations of a variety of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices and information systems.

This position is responsible for leading a team of traffic management personnel to ensure the efficient and safe flow of traffic throughout the city.

The role also involves engaging with the team of experts in strategic & innovative planning for the new initiatives being planned in the city.

It also involves contributing towards the functional and operational innovations, restructuring the procedures for simpler yet better outcome driver performance of the system.

Supervision and Leadership :

  • Lead and supervise a team of traffic controllers and operators, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure optimal performance and productivity.
  • Set clear expectations, goals, and objectives for team members, and regularly assess performance against established metrics.
  • Cohesively collaborate with other supervisors and team members to ensure achievement of organizational goals and objectives.
  • Contribute to an inclusive and conducive environment of performance and cooperation to ensure best team performance.

Traffic Management :

  • Monitor traffic conditions and incidents in real-time using advanced traffic management systems and tools.
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders, including transportation authorities, emergency services, and maintenance crews, to manage traffic incidents, closures, and diversions effectively.

Data Analysis and Reporting :

  • Working with critical data that informs the safe operation of the city transport infrastructure.
  • Analyze traffic data and trends to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to optimize traffic flow and minimize congestion.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive reports on traffic operations, incidents, and performance metrics to management and other stakeholders.

Technology and Systems Management :

  • Coordinate through team of experts for proper functioning and maintenance of traffic management systems, including traffic signal control systems, CCTV cameras, variable message signs, and other related equipment.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in traffic management technology and recommend upgrades or enhancements from operational perspective as needed to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Training and Development :

  • Develop and deliver training programs for traffic control centre staff to ensure proficiency in operating equipment, interpreting data, and responding to traffic incidents.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team to enhance skills and capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in transportation planning / management, engineering, urban planning, or a related field (preferred).
  • Preferred 1 year of experience in traffic management, transportation engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of traffic management principles, traffic control systems, and transportation planning concepts.
  • Proficiency in using traffic management software and tools, such as traffic signal control software, GIS applications, and incident management systems.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to improve traffic operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and manage people / staff. Work as a collaborator and team player while performing the role of the people’s leader.
