Abouttherole

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-Time Quality Assurance Manager, Validationto join our dynamic Quality Assurance team. The work of the Quality Assurance Manager is integral to Canadian Blood Services role as Canada's Lifeline.

Reporting to the Associate Director, QA Development & Change, the Quality Assurance Manager, Validation is responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of the national standardized validation process. In conjunction with Quality Management System department, the Manager is responsible for the establishment and implementation of training on the national validation process, and ensuring that process support and subject matter expertise is made available to the user community of the validation process. The Manager is responsible for the definition, collection, analysis and review of process performance monitoring metrics, effectively monitoring and managing the national validation process, and identifying opportunities for improvement.

The Manager will support the national validation process through the provision of services to the organization, including the provision of validation subject matter expertise, the management of validation projects, and the preparation of national validation status reports.

The Manager must have a thorough understanding of applicable Good Manufacturing Practices as defined by Health Canada, and in particular the theory and application of validation principles and processes, and their integration into a Quality Management System.

Formula for Success

  • Directs the validation department by overseeing personnel recruitment, training, and performance management while aligning departmental objectives and budgetary targets with broader corporate goals.

  • In conjunction with Quality Management System department, leads the end-to-end development, implementation, and continuous improvement of national standardized validation processes (equipment, software, and procedures), ensuring full regulatory compliance and operational alignment through cross-divisional collaboration, stakeholder consultation, and robust CAPA/non-conformance oversight.

  • Orchestrates the lifecycle of process performance by defining and monitoring key leading and trailing indicators, chairing management reviews, and leveraging data analysis to drive continuous improvement of national validation standards.

  • Serves as the primary expert for the national validation process, providing strategic guidance, mentoring, and technical coaching to the process user community to ensure organizational proficiency.

  • Manages the delivery of national validation services by prioritizing project requests, overseeing technical execution (equipment, process, and systems), and governing the selection and performance of external consultants to ensure all deliverables meet regulatory and organizational standards.

  • Collaborates on QA&RA divisional initiatives and continuous improvement projects while cultivating strong stakeholder relationships to advance organizational quality standards.

Desired Education and skills

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, or equivalent professional education and experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive related experience, including experience in supervising professional staff, in quality management systems, process design, control and continuous improvement, validation and project management. Experience in pharmaceutical, device or biologic manufacturing under GMP is required.
  • Proven effective interpersonal, facilitation and English language communication skills.

  • Good presentation and public speaking skills.

  • Ability to lead and facilitate cross-functional teams.

  • Proven effective writing skills.

  • Sound organizational and time management skills.

  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and strong decision making skills.
