About Ecora

Ecora Consultants Ltd. is one of Canada's fastest-growing full-service consulting firms, driven by our commitment to excellence, innovation, and community. With a multidisciplinary team and offices across British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario, we deliver integrated solutions in engineering, environmental sciences, planning, and natural resource management.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our team on a permanent full-time basis. This role will lead and manage complex geotechnical engineering projects from concept through completion.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, proven leadership capabilities, and a track record of delivering high-quality, sustainable geotechnical solutions across municipal, commercial, industrial, and residential sectors. This individual will play a key role in client relationship management, mentoring junior staff, and supporting business development efforts within the Geotechnical Discipline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the design and execution of geotechnical engineering projects, including shallow/deep foundations, retaining structures, slope stability, excavations, shoring, and earthworks.
  • Perform advanced geotechnical analyses, numerical modeling, and simulations for complex ground and structural interactions.
  • Oversee and conduct geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, test pitting, directing field staff, and detailed logging of soil and rock conditions.
  • Prepare comprehensive engineering reports, proposals, technical specifications, and detailed design drawings.
  • Conduct construction reviews and provide field engineering support to ensure adherence to design intent, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, EITs, geoscientists, and technologists, fostering technical development and career growth.
  • Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure successful and profitable project delivery.
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with municipal, provincial, and federal codes and standards (e.g., BC Building Code, MMCD).
  • Lead business development efforts, including proposal preparation, fee estimates, and identification of new project opportunities.
  • Review and professionally stamp engineering drawings, reports, and other deliverables.
  • Provide expert technical advice and solutions for complex geotechnical challenges.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary coordination to integrate geotechnical designs with civil, structural, and environmental components.
  • Implement quality assurance and control processes for all geotechnical deliverables.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
  • Utilize advanced geotechnical software (e.g., GeoStudio suite—Slope/W, Seep/W, Sigma/W; WALLAP; Plaxis) for analysis and design.
  • Oversee and interpret laboratory testing programs for soil and rock samples.
  • Support strategic planning and growth initiatives within the Geo Hydro Discipline.
  • Represent Ecora at industry conferences, events, and client engagements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering (with geotechnical specialization), or related field; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia or Alberta, or immediately eligible for registration.
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience, ideally in a consulting environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge in soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation design, slope stability, seismic design, excavations, shoring, and earthworks.
  • High proficiency with geotechnical software and familiarity with diverse field investigation methods.
  • Thorough understanding of Canadian geotechnical codes, standards, and construction practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver geotechnical projects from inception to completion.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineering staff.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven client-focused approach with strong relationship-building skills.
  • Business development experience, including proposal and fee estimate preparation.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites and meetings as required.
  • Intermediate First Aid certification considered an asset
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and professional integrity.

Why Join Ecora

  • Be part of a fast-growing, employee-owned firm recognized for technical excellence and community commitment.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package, including:
    • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental coverage
    • Group RRSP matching program
    • Paid vacation and sick leave
    • Performance bonus
    • Personal days
    • Professional membership reimbursements
  • Access to mentorship programs, technical training, and professional development opportunities.
  • A collaborative, supportive work culture with team events and initiatives.
