Job description

Our Client is in the landscape industry specializing in landscape products manufacturing, and are seeking a Divisional Controller to join them. The role is in office 5 days a week in Georgetown.

Step into a key leadership role where your financial expertise directly shapes divisional performance and supports strategic decisions across the business. This is a high-impact opportunity to own the full financial stewardship of a division, partnering closely with operations and senior management in a growing, Ontario-based organization.

About the Role:

As Divisional Controller, you will lead all financial management activities for the division, ensuring accurate reporting, robust controls, and insightful analysis that drives operational and strategic outcomes. You will act as a trusted business partner to divisional leadership, translating financial data into actionable recommendations and guiding the division toward its profitability and growth targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the full financial close process for the division, including journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Lead cost accounting activities, including product costing, standard cost updates, and detailed variance analysis to support operational efficiency and margin improvement.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor divisional budgets and forecasts, providing timely analysis of performance against plan and recommending corrective actions.
  • Design, implement, and maintain effective internal controls and compliance processes aligned with corporate policies and Canadian regulatory requirements.
  • Manage cash flow and working capital at the divisional level, optimizing inventory, receivables, and payables to support business needs and financial targets.
  • Produce and present financial performance reports and KPI dashboards to divisional and corporate leadership, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary finance business partner to operations, sales, and other functional leaders, supporting strategic planning, investment decisions, and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the divisional finance team, setting clear expectations, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring high-quality financial support to the business.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a controller or senior finance leadership role within a divisional or business unit environment.
  • Strong expertise in cost accounting and variance analysis within a manufacturing or operationally complex setting.
  • Demonstrated capability in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning, including scenario analysis and performance tracking.
  • Advanced skills in financial reporting and analysis, with the ability to interpret complex data and communicate clear insights to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of internal controls, compliance frameworks, and audit processes.
  • Hands-on proficiency with ERP and financial systems, including the ability to optimize processes and reporting within those platforms.
  • Experience managing cash flow and working capital, with a track record of improving liquidity and operational efficiency.
  • Strong business partnering skills, able to challenge and support senior stakeholders and contribute to strategic decision-making.
  • Proven leadership ability, including managing and developing finance staff in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with Canadian manufacturing or industrial businesses in Ontario.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and cost-optimization initiatives.
  • Exposure to multi-site or multi-entity reporting structures.
  • Experience implementing or upgrading ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
  • Background in developing and refining KPI frameworks for operational and financial performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CPA designation required.
  • Additional training or certification in management accounting, financial analysis, or internal controls considered an asset.
  • Ongoing professional development in Canadian regulatory and tax matters is advantageous.
