The Architectural Technologist is responsible for the design, drafting, and production related tasks, while coordinating permit and architectural approval applications. This role is actively involved in improving existing products and acting as a liaison for internal and external business partners. As demand dictates, the Architectural Technologist supports new product development.

Request or complete plot plans and review for accuracy
Set up CAD/REVIT job files,
Apply for Architectural approvals
Make job specific changes to working drawings as per customer requests, Select exterior colors as required
Liaise with sales department in regards to change orders and requests for pricing
Liaise with construction department and or trade partners in regards to questions or concerns with drawings
Review job specific engineering, roof and floor layouts against completed working drawings
Distribute construction documents to Sales, Estimating, Construction and Trade Partners
Apply for building permits, Ensure production timelines are met
Review new stages for compliance with existing product and city by-laws, Complete new stage setup
Resolve onsite construction issues as they arise (framing, engineering, structural and roofing plans, finishing, electrical, etc.)
Complete Design Spec Changes (DSC) and AIM’s in CAD/REVIT master drawings. Issue DSC to housing group and maintain DSC electronic folders
Produce Marketing Brochures; create CAD/REVIT files, create marketing PDF’s and review 3D renderings as required
Produce and maintain tender drawings
Create and distribute Master Job Lists
Complete working drawings for new plan options and new elevations
Participate in product development meetings (when required)
Participate in framing walk through of new product (Showhomes/prototypes)
Review floor and roof layouts as the need arises (supplier change, revised engineering)
Review and maintain current engineering for production
Review supplier products as new items are available
Liaise with City in regards to code, bylaw or application concerns and questions
Keep current on code, bylaw, engineering and industry changes by attending, but not limited to, industry seminars, information sessions, product demonstrations and Professional Home Builders Institute (PHBI) courses
Be a great partner with local City contacts and work with them to improve our turnaround time for permits
Provide training to others (new team members, Sales, Construction, Estimating) with respect to production department procedures and areas of responsibility
Create & maintain training documentation as required
Post-Secondary Diploma in Architectural Technologies, Civil Engineering or other related field
5+ years of industry experience
Solid understanding of industry, building code, and government requirements
Strong proficiency using MS Office, AutoCAD, and REVIT
Advanced critical thinking and problem solving skills
Effective communication skills; ability to connect with customers, team members and external partners
Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple competing priorities
Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
