Job description

Our Story & Purpose:

We’re Vancity, a member-owned credit union built on the principles of inclusion and social justice. Since 1946, our relentless commitment to these values has helped us challenge the status quo and break down barriers. We’ve made bold commitments to become net-zero by 2040 across all mortgages and loans, and we’re actively pursuing strategies in Indigenous banking and financial resilience for our members.

As the largest private sector Living Wage Employer in Canada, we’re proud to be consistently recognized as one of the country’s Top Employers. If you’re ready to join our team of 2,700 diverse individuals, access competitive rewards and benefits, and be part of a greater movement – apply today!

Your Role in Supporting Our Members:

We are seeking a hands-on Technical Lead to join the Integration Platforms Operations team. This role sits at the intersection of DevSecOps enablement and production operations, with accountability for designing and implementing robust pipelines, driving operational excellence, and leading production monitoring, support, and troubleshooting across our integration landscape.

The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader with deep experience in Azure-based integration platforms, production support, and DevSecOps practices, who can both design solutions and lead teams through complex operational challenges.

This is a Full-time, Permanent role based at Vancity head office. Our head office is based in Vancouver, but we are open to candidates in BC and Ontario. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site for events and business demands when needed.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • DevSecOps & Platform Enablement
  • Design, develop, and maintain DevSecOps reference pipelines using Azure DevOps for integration workloads.
  • Embed security controls (SAST, DAST, secrets management, policy-as-code) into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Define and enforce standards for build, release, deployment, and environment promotion.
  • Partner with architecture, security, and development teams to drive DevSecOps best practices.
  • Automate infrastructure, configuration, and operational tasks where possible.
  • Production Operations & Reliability
  • Lead production monitoring, alerting, and observability for integration platforms.
  • Define and implement SLIs, SLOs, and operational KPIs.
  • Drive incident response, root cause analysis (RCA), and post-incident reviews.
  • Troubleshoot complex, cross-platform production issues involving APIs, messaging, and orchestration layers.
  • Ensure platform reliability, scalability, performance, and security.
  • Technical Leadership
  • Act as a technical escalation point for production issues and platform design decisions.
  • Mentor engineers and promote a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to platform roadmaps, technical standards, and operational runbooks.
  • Collaborate with application teams to onboard services onto the integration platforms.

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience designing and leading high-scale, high-availability backend/API systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure Integration Services, including Azure API Management (APIM), Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Service Bus, and Event Grid.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, including build, release, and deployment automation.
  • Deep production operations expertise, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, root cause analysis (RCA), and post-incident reviews.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting distributed systems, particularly APIs, messaging/event-driven architectures, and integration workflows.
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized platforms, preferably AKS and MuleSoft Runtime Fabric (RTF).
  • Strong observability and monitoring experience using tools such as Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics, or equivalent platforms.
  • Solid scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Bash, or similar) with a strong understanding of DevSecOps and secure SDLC practices.

Preferred Qualifications/ Certifications

  • Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
  • CompTIA Security+ or CompTIA CySA+
  • MuleSoft Certified Platform Architect
  • Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) or equivalent cloud security certification
  • ITIL® 4 Foundation (or higher) for production operations and incident management practices

You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:

  • Collaborative – You work well across teams and communicate clearly with stakeholders
  • Detail-Oriented – You take pride in creating reliable, secure, and well-documented systems
  • Resilient – You stay calm and focused when troubleshooting complex issues
  • Curious – You continuously seek to improve systems and learn new technologies

We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don't perfectly align with those listed.

What You’ll Earn:
This role offers a salary range of $113,100 to $140,000 per annum. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.

Why You’ll Love Working Here: A career at Vancity is more than just a job, you’re joining a tradition of change-makers who are creating lasting change for our communities. Beyond base pay, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package to ensure our employees are empowered to thrive:

  • Living Wage Employer: We’re the largest private-sector Living Wage Employer in Canada and consistently ranked among Canada’s Top Employers
  • Customizable Benefits: Permanent employees receive flexible benefit packages that can be tailored annually to meet evolving needs
  • Generous Vacation: New employees start with 3-4 weeks of vacation per year, with additional days earned over time
  • Extra Stat Holidays: In addition to BC’s 11 statutory holidays, we offer 2 extra days, plus care days for personal or family illness
  • Immediate Health Coverage: Health and dental benefits begin on your hire date, with three levels of coverage to choose from
  • Defined Benefit Pension: Our retirement plan provides a guaranteed income for life, recognizing that retirement looks different for everyone
