Job description

Job Description:

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Print Services duties:

  • Operates high volume production printer(s) as well as other digital production printers, including colour devices, flatbed scanner and auxiliary equipment;
  • Receives and prepares jobs received manually and electronically ensuring production of high quality and prioritizes work orders according to specified deadlines;
  • Assembles original document masters received in a variety of formats (e.g. hard copy, USB memory stick, email or network origin), into print format. Programs job specifications and completes printing in a timely fashion;
  • Checks electronic files, proofs, and printed material for accuracy;
  • Accurately calculates recoverable costs;
  • Operates and manages digital print management system;
  • Archives digital files maintains network files archives;
  • Liaises with Bookstore buyers and Library copyright specialist to ensure constant flow and timely and effective communication to expedite courseware production;
  • Performs inventory control, stock ordering, and monthly billing and prepares Purchase Requisitions for stock as required;
  • Operates Guillotine, 3 hole-drill, power stitcher, folder, Cerlox and coil binding systems, padding station and assists with routine cleaning and maintenance;
  • Performs basic cleaning, maintenance and trouble shooting for all power equipment.
  • Contacts equipment service providers as required.
  • Provides varied and complex customer support services in person, via email and by phone. Identifies customer needs and assists customers in submitting jobs; assists customers in the placement and layout of print jobs. Manipulates text and graphics.
  • Delivers finished product to a variety of locations throughout the campus;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required


Education

  • Completion of Grade 12 including up to one year of keyboarding, word processing, and general PC skills including common business application software.
  • One (1) year of recent related experience in the operation of a high volume, computerized network print department, including experience with operating procedures for high speed printers.
  • Experience with standard printshop finishing operations and related equipment such as a Guillotine, 3-hole drill, stitcher, folder and Cerlox binding system.
  • Experience in the production of Custom Courseware would be an asset.
  • Experience in the operation of a telephone switchboard, an asset


>Skills & Abilities

  • Computer proficiency with key boarding skills of 40+ wpm.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of or, ability and aptitude to master common business software applications.
  • Knowledge of a variety of electronic file formats and related software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work long periods in a standing position; possess mechanical aptitude for equipment maintenance; follow written and oral instructions, take printing requests and relay customer requests to printing terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret requisitions
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize mathematical formulas and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and efficiently and work calmly and effectively with high volume periods and stressful circumstances.
  • Excellent interactive and teamwork skills.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to deal effectively and diplomatically in all situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work and perform the physical aspects of this position such as lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work efficiently with limited supervision and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, faculty, co-workers and students.
