Job description

Your Opportunity:

This part-time ( FTE) position will support academic researchers within the Kidney Health Research Group at the University of Alberta by working within the Provincial Research Data Services (PRDS) team (within Health Shared Services organization) and the Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit. Primarily administrative data sources available within the health care system will be utilized including data from the provincial EMR, Connect Care. The successful candidate will use their expert programming skills ( SQL, R, STATA, SAS, Python) and statistical knowledge to transform data into analytical datasets and perform statistical analysis to collaborate with clinical and applied health researchers. This includes deriving complex concepts and working with many different health related datasets ( Discharge Abstract Database, National Ambulatory Care Reporting System, Pharmaceutical Information Network, Laboratory, Vital Statistics) in an organized manner and with great attention to detail. The successful candidate will be expected to perform statistical analysis (descriptive statistics and more advanced analysis including inferential and predictive statistics) as well as provide interpretations and methodology recommendations while being able to present findings in various formats. The successful candidate will also assist with preparation of academic works (, abstracts, presentations, manuscripts) and reports including creating tables and figures and assisting with writing and critical review for appropriate content and accuracy.This posting may be used to fill additional part time positions within Provincial Research Data Services, if available.

Description:

As a Research II, you will be responsible for coordinating research activities which generate and disseminate new knowledge that assists with advancing the understanding of health disciplines and various health and medical concerns. Working with the principal investigator, you will assist with the study design and development of research protocols, determine appropriate data collection methods and measurement procedures, interpret results, develop recommendations and coordinate study approvals. You will also contribute to grant submissions and budgeting, conduct literature reviews and environmental scans and provide day-to-day oversight of research studies/projects.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in a health or science related field. Registration with applicable professional association or college where required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum Masters degree in Statistics or Epidemiology with a strong quantitative component. Minimum three years’ related experience in a healthcare analytics environment. Must have strong SQL programming skills and proficiency in R and STATA. Must have experience working with Alberta administrative health datasets DAD, NACRS, Practitioner Claims, lab. Must have experience working with and creating reproducible code, macros/functions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a Nephrology related research environment. Experience with other statistical packages such as Python and SAS. Experience/familiarity with Snowflake Cloud environment.
