Job Type: Contract / Temporary
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–4:30 PM Mountain Time
Experience: 5+ Years of Progressive Financial/Accounting Experience
Professional Designation: CPA or Actively Pursuing CPA

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Financial Analyst to provide financial accounting, analysis, and reporting support within a large and complex organization.

This role will support a broad range of finance and accounting functions, including financial reporting, general ledger accounting, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, grant and revenue reporting, reconciliations, internal controls, audit support, and month-end/year-end close activities.

This is not solely an FP&A-focused position. Candidates should have a strong foundation in financial accounting and reporting, with hands-on experience preparing journal entries, performing detailed reconciliations, analyzing financial statements, and producing accurate financial reports under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, and financial statement notes.
  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Prepare and process journal entries.
  • Analyze financial statement variances and identify the underlying causes.
  • Perform balance sheet, cash flow, net debt, and accumulated surplus analysis.
  • Support month-end and year-end financial close activities.
  • Reconcile revenue accounts and restricted funding receipts.
  • Assist with operating and restricted-fund accounting.
  • Prepare variance analyses and complex financial reports.
  • Support grant and restricted-fund reporting.
  • Monitor deferred revenue and grant balances, including expiring funding.
  • Assist with fixed-asset and capital-revenue accounting.
  • Support payroll, banking, and balance-sheet account reconciliations.
  • Support subledger interfaces, billings, and remittances.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests.
  • Prepare supporting schedules, worksheets, reconciliations, and documentation for auditors.
  • Support Chart of Accounts maintenance.
  • Assist with time-sensitive financial reporting and regulatory reporting deliverables.
  • Ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable accounting standards and organizational policies.
  • Work collaboratively with finance teams and stakeholders to resolve accounting and reporting issues.
  • Manage multiple priorities while meeting strict reporting deadlines.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive financial/accounting experience.
  • CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA designation.
  • Strong background in financial accounting and financial reporting.
  • Experience analyzing financial statements and financial data.
  • Strong General Ledger (GL) and account reconciliation experience.
  • Hands-on experience with month-end and year-end close.
  • Experience preparing and processing journal entries.
  • Strong variance analysis and financial analysis skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working with financial systems and database applications in a large or complex organization.
  • Ability to prepare complex financial reports, reconciliations, and analyses.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet tight, time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).
  • Canadian public-sector accounting.
  • Healthcare finance or accounting.
  • Provincial government or public-sector organizations.
  • Grant accounting and reporting.
  • Restricted-fund accounting.
  • External audit support.
  • Financial statement preparation.
  • Deferred revenue accounting.
  • Capital asset accounting.
  • Public-sector financial reporting processes.
  • ASPE, IFRS, and GAAP.
  • Internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Government or enterprise financial reporting systems.

Key Competencies

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • High initiative and accountability.
  • Sound professional judgment and decision-making.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize competing assignments.
  • Strong deadline management and organizational skills.
  • Professional written and verbal communication.
  • Collaborative approach to working with finance and business stakeholders.
  • Strong stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to explain complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Comfort working in a large, complex, and deadline-driven environment.
