Your impact

Are you passionate about protecting water resources and improving environmental outcomes in your community? Join our team in Burnaby, BC, and play a key role in delivering innovative water quality solutions across British Columbia, Canada and the US. This is your opportunity to lead technical work on projects that safeguard public health, aquatic ecosystems, and regulatory compliance.

As a Senior Water Quality Engineer , you will support the planning, design, and implementation of water quality infrastructure and natural systems projects. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assess contaminant fate and transport, design treatment wetlands and remediation systems, and model environmental impacts under changing climate and regulatory conditions.

You’ll work on a wide range of projects including :

  • Watershed and regional-scale water quality assessments
  • Nutrient and contaminant modeling in lakes and reservoirs
  • Constructed wetlands and nature-based treatment systems
  • Regulatory compliance and permitting support
  • Mining remediation

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical analysis of water quality data, modeling, and contaminant transport
  • Develop and review technical memos, reports, and specifications
  • Design and oversee implementation of treatment systems (e.g., wetlands, filtration, aeration)
  • Support environmental permitting and regulatory compliance (e.g., WQ standards, ESA, WSA)
  • Collaborate with civil, hydrogeological, ecological, and regulatory teams on integrated water infrastructure projects
  • Mentor junior engineers and support team growth and development
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Licensed (or eligible) Professional Engineer in British Columbia
  • 10+ years of experience in water quality engineering or water resources
  • Strong understanding of contaminant fate and transport, hydrology, and water chemistry
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines, BC Water Quality Standards)
  • Experience with modeling tools and GIS integration
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills
  • Preferred Assets

  • Experience with CE-QUAL-W2 or other water quality hydrodynamic models
  • Knowledge or experience with dilution modelling
  • Work arrangements

You’ll be expected to work from the Burnaby office approximately two days per week, with occasional travel for client meetings, site visits, and team collaboration.

    Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $100,700.00 to $152,240.00. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across British Columbia, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

We value collaboration and believe that in-person interactions are crucial for both our culture and client delivery. We empower employees with our hybrid working policy, allowing them to split their work week between Jacobs offices / projects and remote locations enabling them to deliver their best work.

Your application experience is important to us, and we’re keen to adapt to make every interaction even better. If you require further support or reasonable adjustments with regards to the recruitment process (for example, you require the application form in a different format), please contact the team via Careers Support.
