Job description

Cooke is a global seafood company with operations in North America, Europe, South America and Australia. Our company’s success is driven by our dynamic, highly skilled, and innovative management team, supported by dedicated employees who live in coastal communities and contribute to the local area’s economy and sense of community.

Cooke is continuing to mature its digital strategy through stronger demand capture, sharper business case discipline, and clearer accountability between business outcomes and technology delivery. As the Manager, Finance Technology, you lead the technology agenda for our Finance and Accounting functions turning finance priorities into a focused capability roadmap and delivery plan, and ensuring digital initiatives deliver measurable value across the core finance and accounting processes that keep the business running, anchored by record-to-report.

The Role

As Manager, Finance Technology, you own both the near-term (typically 12-month) technology roadmap for Finance and Accounting and the delivery of that roadmap operating within Cooke’s enterprise IT governance, architecture, and delivery frameworks. Finance and Accounting spans general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, tax, and financial planning & analysis. You translate finance priorities into sequenced, executable initiatives, define scope and success criteria, and lead the team that delivers capability-specific technology work. Delivery is coordinated through the Project Manager and within approved plans; you resolve domain-specific delivery issues, and you escalate risks, cross-capability trade-offs, and decisions beyond your authority through governance.

You partner closely with the Finance leadership team as your primary business stakeholders, the Digital Strategy Analyst, Solution Architect, Project Manager and Business Systems Analyst aligned to your capability areas. Enterprise Architecture governs technical standards and patterns and the PMO governs delivery. You report to the Director, Business Technology.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Delivery Management

  • Lead and develop the delivery team assigned to Finance Technology (e.g., Business Systems Analysts and Project Managers), with potential to scale as the portfolio grows
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, set objectives, manage performance, and own development planning for your team
  • Prioritize work, manage day-to-day execution decisions, and ensure quality, compliance, and timely delivery against defined standards and commitments
  • Coordinate domain-specific resources and resolve delivery issues through the Project Manager, within approved plans
  • Coach team members, build a learning culture, and mentor future team leads

Finance & Accounting Capability Roadmap

  • Own and maintain a 12-month technology roadmap for Finance and Accounting, aligned to enterprise sequencing set by the Director, Business Technology
  • Translate finance and accounting priorities into sequenced, executable initiatives with measurable outcomes
  • Define scope, constraints, and success criteria for initiatives within the capability
  • Drive continuous improvement and capability maturity across finance and accounting processes - record-to-report (R2R), plus the finance side of procure-to-pay (accounts payable) and order-to-cash (billing, accounts receivable, and collections) that Finance shares with Procurement and Sales & Marketing

Business Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the primary technology partner for Finance and Accounting leaders, building trust and surfacing needs, pain points, and emerging demand into the intake process
  • Represent the finance domain in intake triage, prioritization, and governance discussions
  • Ensure requirements are clearly linked to business outcomes and that stakeholders are aligned on the baseline

Initiative Quality & Business Case Discipline

  • Ensure each initiative has a clear problem statement, a validated business case, a measurable objective, and a named business sponsor
  • Support ROI validation and confirm scope, success criteria, and product fit before initiatives are submitted for prioritization or contract
  • Provide inputs to budgeting and forecasting for the finance technology portfolio

Delivery Readiness, Handoff & Benefits

  • Confirm initiatives entering delivery have validated requirements, funded scope, and clear ownership, and provide a clean transition to implementation and then support
  • Stay engaged through delivery to validate readiness, sign off on business outcomes, and support benefits realization

Governance, Escalation & Decision-Making

  • Participate in intake, architecture, and stage-gate reviews for initiatives impacting Finance and Accounting
  • Provide clear recommendations and decisions within your authority and within agreed governance timelines
  • Escalate cross-capability trade-offs and decisions beyond your authority through PMO or enterprise governance
  • Remain accountable for delivery outcomes once initiatives are approved

What Success Looks Like

  • Finance and Accounting leaders have a clear, current, and trusted technology roadmap
  • Initiatives entering delivery are well-framed, well-scoped, and ready for execution
  • Core finance and accounting processes (record-to-report, and the finance side of procure-to-pay and order-to-cash) are measurably more efficient and better supported by technology over time
  • The team is high-performing, well-developed, and operating to CookeIT standards
  • The domain delivers measurable business outcomes, not just shipped projects

Core Skills & Capabilities

  • People leadership and coaching - able to lead, develop, and get results through a team
  • Governance and quality assurance across delivery processes, frameworks, and standards
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and delivery management skills
  • Stakeholder management and communication with finance and IT audiences
  • Ability to translate strategy into team execution and connect initiatives to business outcomes
  • Business case structuring, ROI validation, and outcome-based framing
  • Understanding of IT financial management concepts (e.g., TBM taxonomy, cost categorization) is an asset

Finance & Accounting Technology (Assets)

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) or Business Central would be an asset
  • Familiarity with industry-standard finance processes - record-to-report (R2R), and the finance components of procure-to-pay and order-to-cash - would be an asset
  • Understanding of core accounting and finance functions: general ledger, AP/AR, month-end and period-end close, consolidations, treasury, tax, and FP&A
  • Awareness of finance data, reporting, and analytics needs (e.g., Power BI) and how they connect to ERP and master data
  • Awareness of finance controls, audit, and compliance considerations

Behaviors That Drive Success

  • Adaptability - Anticipates change, guides the team through transitions, and adjusts plans to maintain momentum
  • Collaboration & Synergy - Leads collaboration across functions; resolves conflicts constructively
  • Outcome Driven - Sets stretch goals and ensures team alignment to business outcomes
  • Growth Mindset - Builds a learning culture within the team and mentors others
  • Business Acumen - Applies business insight to improve processes and make informed decisions
  • Decisiveness - Makes timely, data-informed decisions within scope
  • Digital Acumen - Applies digital insight to improve work quality and the finance user experience
  • Political Savviness - Builds credibility and influence across departments

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, IT, Finance, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 5–8 years in IT or business roles, including 2–3 years in a supervisory or team lead capacity
  • Demonstrated experience delivering technology for finance, accounting, or a comparable corporate function
  • Experience leading BSAs and/or PMs and operating within a structured delivery and governance model
  • Familiarity with capability-based planning, business case discipline, and vendor scope shaping
  • Experience with project/portfolio management and reporting tools (e.g., Monday.com, MS Project) and governance frameworks
  • Familiarity with D365 F&O or Business Central, and with finance processes such as record-to-report, an asset
  • Comfortable engaging finance leadership and translating their priorities into technology outcomes
