Due to current market demands, a temporary market salary supplement is being offered in addition to base salary in the form of an annual lump sum payment based on 15% of range max paid twice a year based on eligibility guidelines.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the overall research, definition, design and overall technology strategy for the company’s software architecture for new or existing systems. You will provide technical leadership and guidance to the organization and evaluate new technologies to determine their suitability for the organization. You will partner with all business units to collaborate, consult and advise on technology system needs in support of the achievement of strategic and integrated business needs. You will also recommend and support the selection and implementation of design methodologies, integrated systems solutions at an enterprise level to enable achievement of business strategies. You will continually identify technology system risks at an enterprise level and recommend solutions for mitigation. As well you will ensure that the organization has the skills necessary to meet the organizations software development needs, now and in the future by fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement through the development and mentorship of employees. This position is considered an expert in its field.
Key Accountabilities

Standards and Processes
Establishes standards, platforms, strategies, guiding principles and methodologies that formulate the software architecture framework and work with teams to ensure they are able to leverage them.
Applies extensive technology expertise to and implement improvements to architectural design, development, and deployment processes.
Identifies gaps in standards and processes for new or existing technologies and works with many stakeholders on establishing new approaches aligned to strategic business and technical outcomes.
Determines best framework to technology or service and working with team members and business units on execution.
Oversees the proper application and selection of technology platforms, systems, building blocks and services through Application Architects, Technology Architects, DevOps Engineers and Developers.
Research, Risk Management and Governance
Researches and stays informed on industry trends relevant to software architecture practices.
Leads the research and enhances organizational knowledge on best practices and collaboratively establishes leading processes and associated governance and monitors protocols to ensure adherence.
Serves as liaison with clients, participating in meetings to ensure client needs are met
Serves as liaison to post-secondary institutions and the local development community to have a better understanding of the environment, influence the community and build a local network.
Continually identifies and assesses technology risks at an enterprise level and recommends solutions for mitigation
Establishes an effective governance framework and quality assurance processes to ensure software architecture framework is adhered to.
Provides mentorship and guidance to team and business partners and actively communicates the requirements of quality assurance practices.
Contributes to the selection of vendors and ensures contracts are aligned to the software architecture framework and governance protocols.
Strategic Delivery
Leads in the establishment of and management of the software architecture framework that aligns with business strategies and mitigates risks.
Participates in business unit’s strategic system planning process to support and advise on potential solutions that will support the strategic solution delivery.
Consults, researches and recommends systems solutions that align with the software architecture framework.
Leads in establishing, determining and implementing architectures, frameworks and standards for solution delivery in support of achievement of strategic business needs.
Integrates planning with stakeholders across numerous multidisciplinary teams (e.g. EPMO, Solution Delivery, Infrastructure, etc.).
Develops briefings and strategic technical recommendations, impacts, assessments, and guidance for business operations.
Consults and provides guidance for the Enterprise Program Management Office.
Advises senior leaders, team members and business units on best practices in architecture frameworks.
Leadership and Learning Environment
Participates in succession plans by continual knowledge transfer to team members and providing feedback to Senior Director.
Understands the importance of being a part of a high performing workforce and actively participates in contributing to the team and effectiveness of seamless customer experience.
Supports Senior Director in human resource activities such as recruitment, staffing and workforce planning as per corporate HR policies and procedures.
Supports Senior Director in establishing performance standards and contributes to performance discussions by providing feedback to Senior Director.
Aids in building a culture of empowerment and accountability to effectively deliver on strategic vision and corporate strategies.
Leads the continual improvement of the software architecture framework through active learning sessions, practical application and feedback.
Provides guidance and mentoring within the Solution Services division.
Provides expert guidance to enhance team and corporate knowledge to deliver on the enterprise architecture framework.
Provides mentorship and feedback for Software Architects and Developers.
Provides guidance and education throughout the organization to spread a better understanding of software and architectural practices.
Acts as a champion for continuous learning so that the skill level of the department continues to improve and delivers value to SGI more effectively.
Corporate Management
Enables the success of programs and policies that are in alignment with corporate, strategic and divisional strategies.
Manages risk in area of authority.
Ensures that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility.
Education and Experience
A four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Information Technology, Mathematics & Applied Science, or Business
Ten years’ experience with software architecture and design, and in project or systems management with increasing responsibility, including experience in supporting the development of others.
Demonstrated experience architecting and delivering a microservice based architecture at an enterprise scale.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of software architecture principles, software design best practices, design patterns and industry standards.
Knowledge in developing software architecture platforms and frameworks and governance protocols.
Knowledge of business processes and how they interact to support business operations.
Knowledge of IT industry and Systems Development Life Cycle best practices and industry standards.
Knowledge of the strategic and tactical planning of application systems and the delivery of IT customer service.
Knowledge of project management methodologies and techniques
Skill in developing continual learning approaches and providing guidance and leadership to enhance abilities.
Skill in developing proposals and presenting recommendations.
