JOB PURPOSE

The Director of Philanthropy provides strategic leadership for Ve’ahavta’s fundraising and philanthropic engagement efforts. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role leads the design and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy that supports the organization’s mission and long-term priorities.

The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for cultivating meaningful relationships with donors, foundations, and community partners while strengthening the systems, processes, and culture that sustain a thriving development program.

This role is ideal for a thoughtful and relationship-driven fundraising leader who values authentic engagement over transactional fundraising and is motivated by the opportunity to help a mission-driven organization deepen its impact.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Fund Development Leadership

  • Lead the development and implementation of Ve’ahavta’s annual fundraising strategy aligned with organizational priorities
  • Identify opportunities to grow philanthropic revenue through diversified funding streams
  • Build and strengthen systems, processes, and operational frameworks that support a sustainable development program
  • Monitor trends in philanthropy and the Jewish communal landscape to integrate best practices and innovation
  • Serve as an ambassador for Ve’ahavta within the Jewish community and the broader philanthropic ecosystem
  • Partner with senior leadership on long-term fundraising planning and revenue forecasting
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy across the organization

Donor & Fundraising Portfolio Management

  • Cultivate and steward relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors
  • Identify and develop new philanthropic partnerships aligned with the organization’s mission
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of foundation grant proposals under $25,000
  • Ensure development activities support donor acquisition, retention, and long-term engagement

Data, Systems & Performance

  • Ensure the integrity and strategic use of the donor database and fundraising systems
  • Monitor key fundraising metrics and donor pipelines to guide strategy and decision-making
  • Strengthen workflows and digital tools that support effective development operations
  • Support accurate reporting on fundraising performance and outcomes

Donor Stewardship & Engagement

  • Lead a comprehensive stewardship approach that ensures meaningful donor recognition and engagement
  • Collaborate with internal teams to create authentic donor experiences and communications
  • Develop strategies that support long-term donor relationships and growth in philanthropic engagement

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor one direct report (Development Coordinator)
  • Establish departmental priorities, workflows, and performance expectations
  • Support a collaborative and innovative development culture focused on continuous improvement

IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of progressive fundraising experience, with demonstrated success in donor engagement and annual campaigns
  • 4+ years of leadership or supervisory experience within a development or philanthropic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to design and strengthen fundraising systems, processes, and donor engagement strategies
  • Superb relationship-building skills and a thoughtful approach to donor engagement
  • Substantial experience cultivating partnerships with individuals, foundations, and corporate supporters
  • Expertise working with fundraising CRM systems and leveraging data to guide strategy
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate ideas into practical action
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities
  • Personal values aligned with Ve’ahavta’s mission and vision

Additional Assets

• CFRE designation
• Experience working within the Toronto Jewish philanthropic or nonprofit community
• Familiarity with Jewish communal organizations, foundations, and donor networks

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Annual Salary: $100,000 – $120,000
