Job Summary
Cleaners perform a significant role by maintaining a clean, safe, functional and pleasant environment for clients and guests. As front-line members of the Care Team, their involvement can enhance the daily living of our residents through integration of social aspects into their assignment.
Key Accountabilities
· Maintain a neat and tidy supply cart, janitor room.
· Follow a current work description for scheduled assignment.
· Recommend improved work routines, procedures etc.
· Participate in Neighbourhood and Departmental meetings and activities.
· Participate in educational opportunities.
· Observe good infection control and occupational health and safety practice including fire regulations.
· Clean and disinfect surfaces according to priority cleaning schedule.
· Dust/wet mop floor areas.
· Vacuum/Clean carpets.
· Dust fixtures and furniture.
· Clean carts, mirrors, lights, doors, foot stools etc.
· Damp wipe ledges, sills.
· Stock supplies on carts.
· Refill dispenser with supplies.
· Wheelchair cleaning as scheduled.
· Follow procedures for segregating, handling, collection, packaging and disposal of waste materials.
· Remove soiled cubicle or bedside curtains and wash in Laundry room.
· Replace curtain hooks as needed.
· Wash ceilings, walls etc. using wall washer.
· Carpet extraction.
· Wet Vac Operation.
· Set up special precaution rooms as requested.
· Perform daily and terminal cleaning procedures for specific precautions as outlined in Housekeeping Infection Control binder (in each mop room) take out.
· Wear protective clothing as directed.
· Furniture movement less than 25 lbs.
· Observe safety measures when lifting/pushing/pulling etc.
· Ensure spray bottles etc. are appropriately labelled take out spray.
· Assess supply needs and fill out order form weekly.
· Remain current with WHMIS program.
· Ensure all cleaning supplies are locked in cabinet space on cart when not in use.
· Maintain good equipment function with regular cleaning.
· Performs minor preventive maintenance e.g. Replace filters etc. Take out
· Documents maintenance requisitions and takes equipment to maintenance for more involved repairs take out.
· Follows established procedures for equipment operation.
· Ensures equipment is not accessible to resident when not in use.
Qualifications & Experience
· Secondary School Graduation Diploma.
· Previous cleaning experience preferred.
· Accountable for cleaning of assigned areas maintaining Q.A. standard in these areas.
· Flexible in ability to organize daily work schedule.
· Ability to work independently.
· Ability to operate related equipment.
· Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
· Ability to deal with others as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
· Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
