Counsellor, Problem Gambling & Behavioural Addictions Direct Service Regulated - (OPSEU) Full-Time, Permanent (Benefitted) Multi-Site Accountability; London & St.

Thomas, Ontario (London & Elgin Zones) This posting is the result of an upcoming vacancy - Application Deadline: July 7, 2026 - We believe that change is possible, for those who are concerned with their behavioral addiction and/or substance use and are ready to explore options of support.

This is a front-line, clinical position providing initial intake, screening, assessment, and community treatment to groups and individuals experiencing addiction and mental health concerns.

This position is primarily geared to individuals with concerns related to gambling, technology and hypersexuality, however experience in the substance use field is also required to support individual with co-occurring concerns.

This counsellor will provide services in the Thames Valley region primary in London and Elgin County.

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) completed within the last six months.

In order to avoid delays in beginning a position, interested applicants who are in need of a PVSC are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING: What you'll be making - Starting rate for this role is $30.01 per hour (Level 1 of the Direct Service, Regulated Professional Grid) ; Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8, $37.26 per hour When you'll work - 70 hours over a two-week period; Monday-Friday; Day shifts, and some evenings What your benefits will be - After a 90-day waiting period, will be enrolled in extended healthcare benefits Your pension plan – Immediately enrolled in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Provide client-centered care from a harm reduction approach Facilitate successful service navigation for clients through empowerment and/or advocacy Share in the provision of Entry / First Contact / Intake Services Provide assessment, treatment planning, referral, advocacy, preliminary case management, community treatment and education as appropriate to people who have concerns about their own behavioral addiction concerns or someone else’s.

Counselling may be on an individual or group basis.

Participate in the facilitation of community treatment groups as needed and appropriate.

Provide the above-mentioned clinical services in satellite offices and other locations as designated and needed.

Manage and meet targets for a clinical caseload and maintain direct service requirements.

Engage in community development, community awareness, education and outreach as designated and appropriate, representing the agency in a professional manner.

On occasion, these services may be provided outside of regular office hours.

Attend site meetings; Annual General Meeting and periodically scheduled strategic planning and team building events.

Maintain awareness of and adherence to policies and protocols as outlined in the Policy and Procedure Manual.

Support and participate in the quality enhancement activities of the team and agency.

Actively participate in both individual and group supervision Provide addiction counselling in a community-based setting, with a primary focus on behavioural addictions, while also delivering evidence-informed support to clients experiencing substance use concerns in alignment with core program responsibilities.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY: Police Vulnerable Sector Check Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) completed within the last six months.

We require the following qualifications: College diploma or University degree in a related field, such as BSW, psychology, or post-graduate diploma in addiction or equivalent (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e.

original degree/diploma or official transcript) Current registration and in good standing with an appropriate college (OCSWSSW, CNO, COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO) Experience working with individuals with problem gambling and behavioral addiction concerns, experience and comfort working with clientele with hypersexuality concern Valid Driver’s License: minimum G2 class required Access to a vehicle required for personal transportation Ability to attend work regularly We prefer the following qualifications: Current certification in First Aid/CPR or willingness to complete within first 3 months of employment preferred ASIST trained Nonviolent Crisis Intervention trained Clinical work experience ideally in addiction treatment including intake services Interdisciplinary experience in the following sectors: child welfare, medical, mental health, violence against women Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Excellent knowledge of community resources in the region relevant to clients Working knowledge of mental health and addiction assessment, treatment, intervention, and support tools and strategies Familiarity with a Harm Reduction approach to client engagement and treatment Comfort and skill with public speaking and group facilitation Strong ability to work collaboratively with community service providers Proficiency with computers, smart phones, variety of software programs including presentation technology Familiar with Zoom, Microsoft Teams and other video conferencing technology Knowledge of computerized documentation methods Crisis intervention and prevention Ability to recognize and diffuse potential conflict situations Applied Suicide Interventions Skills and Training Knowledge of WHMIS, fire, health and safety procedures Bilingual both official languages, preferred; préférence sera accordée aux candidats qui sont compétents dans les deux langues officielles du Canada INTERNAL APPLICANTS: To be considered as an internal applicant, current staff members are reminded to apply using their @cmhatv.ca or @slwar.ca email address.
