What we are looking for : We are looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer - Nuclear to any of our GTA and / or Waterloo offices to join the Engineering Design Organization (EDO) group.

As a member of the multidiscipline design team, the successful candidate will lead complex design projects for the electrical discipline, coordinate with the larger project team and play a crucial role in optimizing GHD’s electrical teams. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in close collaboration with clients and stakeholders, regularly visit job sites and work in Owner’s Engineer capacity when requested, ensuring successful completion and project delivery within budget and schedule while maintaining a high standard of quality. In addition, expectations will include quick adaptation to different clients’ design standards, regularly working on pursuits, mentoring and / or supervising junior staff, development of team standards and working with business groups to maintain client satisfaction as required.

Our Hybrid Model : Be part of the dynamic culture! Our workplace thrives on a hybrid model, combining in-office collaboration and flexibility. Join us in the office three days a week to contribute, connect, and excel in our vibrant environment.

In an ever-changing world, it requires creativity and innovation to stay ahead. As part of a truly global team, working on complex and rewarding projects, you'll be at the forefront of driving change. See what the power of commitment can do for you. Join us as we strive to ensure a sustainable future for our communities and the world, we live in. Become part of our global network of skilled engineers, scientists, auditors, planners, and environmental specialists, all working together to leave this world better than we found it.

Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of duties and will see you involved in :

  • Needs Assessment : Uncover emerging issues or needs related to electrical design within nuclear projects by identifying potential causes, risks, and stakeholder requirements. Collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams to define project objectives, technical needs, and compliance expectations in accordance with nuclear standards and regulations (CNSC, NRC, IAEA).
  • Improvement / Innovation : Identify and implement improvements to electrical engineering processes and project delivery practices, ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality. Lead initiatives that optimize GHD’s electrical teams and design workflows, adapt quickly to client standards, and champion continuous improvement in design methods and tools such as ETAP, EasyPower, or SKM.
  • Culture of Innovation : Promote a culture of innovation within the electrical engineering discipline by mentoring and supervising junior engineers and designers. Drive collaboration across business groups and support the development of team standards, fostering creativity and technical excellence.
  • Engineering Solutions Design : Lead complex electrical design projects within the nuclear sector. Develop design documentation such as preliminary design reports, load lists, power demand summaries, detailed electrical drawings, and technical memorandums. Ensure all deliverables — including specifications, bills of materials, construction sequences, and procurement documents — meet project requirements for functionality, performance, safety, and cost.
  • Engineering Standards Specification : Analyze client specifications and regulatory requirements to establish, interpret, and validate electrical engineering standards and specifications. Ensure compliance with Canadian Electrical Codes and nuclear industry standards, contributing to GHD’s engineering excellence and quality assurance processes.
  • Process Design Engineering : Specify and refine methods and processes for electrical system design, including power distribution, backup systems, site power layouts, and transformer or switchgear sizing. Continuously improve engineering and design workflows to enhance delivery accuracy and efficiency while maintaining cost and schedule targets.
  • Knowledge Management : Capture and share lessons learned from nuclear projects through internal knowledge-sharing initiatives, training sessions, and development of best practices. Support internal capability building and the evolution of electrical design methodologies across GHD’s Engineering Design Organization (EDO).
  • Installation Monitoring and Control : Provide technical oversight during installation and construction phases. Support site personnel by reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, conducting inspections, and verifying compliance with safety, efficiency, and design integrity standards.
  • Technical Developments Recommendation : Evaluate and recommend technical developments or innovations that enhance system reliability, safety, and performance in nuclear facilities. Stay current with emerging technologies and propose updates to tools, systems, or design methodologies.
  • Professional Supervision : Lead and oversee the electrical discipline team on nuclear projects, ensuring technical accuracy, quality assurance, and adherence to GHD’s QA / QC processes. Provide mentorship and professional guidance to junior staff, contributing to their technical and professional growth.
  • Feasibility Studies : Conduct and lead feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and risk assessments for electrical systems within nuclear projects. Provide technical recommendations and documentation to support informed client decisions and project planning.
  • Project Management : Manage and deliver multiple projects concurrently within defined budgets and schedules. Prepare proposals, cost estimates, progress reports, and coordinate interdisciplinary efforts to achieve high-quality project outcomes.
  • Client & Customer Management (External) : Maintain and strengthen relationships with key nuclear industry clients and stakeholders.
