Job Title: Mechanical Technician / Millwright

Job Description

This Mechanical Technician / Millwright role is a hands-on technical position responsible for performing both electrical and mechanical repairs on a wide range of production equipment.

You will test, maintain, and install electrical motors, generators, alternators, and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems, ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently.

The position follows a three-week rotational schedule, which includes varied hours, on-call coverage, and weekend work based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical and mechanical repairs on production equipment, including CNC lathe machines, conveyors, swaging machines, bandsaws, phosphate tanks, and pneumatic and hydraulic tools.
  • Assist in diagnosing equipment failures and execute repairs on production machinery such as hydraulic cylinders and actuators, pneumatic systems, and rotating equipment.
  • Read and interpret part drawings, electrical drawings, schematics, charts, and tables to support troubleshooting, installation, and repair activities.
  • Install, replace, or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, CAT5 cables, coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance to verify proper function and identify faults.
  • Maintain, repair, test, and install electrical motors, generators, alternators, and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems.
  • Perform routine equipment lubrication, cleaning, and preventative maintenance inspections and repairs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes as required to safely move materials and equipment within the facility.
  • Provide input to maintenance leadership and warehouse personnel regarding equipment inventories, replacement parts, and spare parts inventory requirements.
  • Complete maintenance reporting and documentation accurately and in a timely manner to support traceability and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of maintenance experience in an industrial setting.
  • Journeyperson Mechanic (Millwright Ticket) Certificate or status as a 4th-year apprentice Millwright.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Hands-on experience with hydraulics, including hydraulic cylinders, actuators, and related systems.
  • Hands-on experience with pneumatics and rotating equipment in an industrial context.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints, schematics, drawings, charts, and tables.
  • Proficiency in performing electrical and mechanical repairs on CNC equipment and other production machinery.
  • Experience installing and repairing industrial wiring, conduits, feeders, and electrical components.
  • Ability to test electrical and electronic equipment for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
  • Competence using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in a maintenance environment.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes as required for maintenance tasks.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance, including equipment lubrication, cleaning, inspection, and minor repairs.
  • Ability to work varied hours on a three-week rotational schedule, including on-call and weekends.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Electrician Certificate is an asset.
  • Experience with maintenance reporting and documentation in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Prior experience in the manufacturing industry, particularly in an industrial maintenance technician capacity.
  • Experience working with conveyors, CNC equipment, and other automated production machinery.
  • Familiarity with CAT5 and coaxial cabling installation and repair.
  • Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical systems in an integrated industrial environment.

Work Environment

You will work with a variety of mechanical and electrical technologies, including motors, generators, alternators, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems, and industrial wiring and cabling.

The role follows a day shift schedule from 6:00 . to 6:00 . on a three-week rotation, with Sundays off and the rotation schedule provided at least a month in advance.

The environment is hands-on and equipment-intensive, requiring regular use of hand tools, power tools, forklifts, and overhead cranes, along with adherence to standard industrial safety practices and appropriate work attire for a production and maintenance setting.
