Job description

Senior Robotics and Control Engineer

Promise Robotics is pioneering Physical AI for homebuilding — a rapidly growing, venture-backed company bringing together AI, robotics, and manufacturing to help the homebuilding industry meet the growing demand for housing. Our robotic systems, built and operated inside AI-powered factories, give the industry the production capacity, consistency, and speed to build more high-quality homes than traditional methods allow. Our team spans AI researchers and roboticists to factory operators, technicians, and production teams — all building the future of homebuilding together.

We’re looking for a Senior Robotics and Control Engineer to join our team and contribute to developing cutting-edge solutions for our core robotic manufacturing technologies. This role is based at our facility in Nisku, AB.

You might be a fit if you:

  • Have a passion for leading industry-changing solutions with significant social, economic, and environmental impact

  • Desire to play a founding role and reap the benefits as part of a growth-stage startup with significant upside

  • Enjoy building not only the technology but also high-performing teams and companies

  • Are committed to continuous learning at the intersection of several industries

What you'll do:

  • Leading design, development, evaluation and improvement of robotic manufacturing systems and processes by working closely with a diverse technical team of software developers and robotic engineers

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair robotic hardware, sensors, drivers and software

  • Maintain and promote a safe and professional environment with a high level of safety awareness and compliance

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the junior members of the team

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Bachelor/College degree in Robotics, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Master's degree preferred.
  • 8+ years' experience in manufacturing environments with automation systems programming and control, including industrial robots and PLCs
  • Strong knowledge and experience in industrial robot programming, PLC/HMI, control panel, automation and electrical standards and best practices with proven history of commissioning manufacturing equipment
  • PLC and HMI programming experience (Beckhoff experience will be a plus)
  • Experience in designing fieldbus network architectures (EtherCAT experience will be a plus)
  • Experience in Safety Programming
  • Experience with perception systems such as force torque sensors, range finders and vision systems
  • Willingness to participate in a variety of technical areas in both software and hardware as needed to solve complex problems and achieve business impact
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication and organization skills
  • Must be able to push, pull and move equipment and/or material up to 50 pounds when circumstances require.
  • May require work in hazardous environments requiring protective equipment.
  • Ability to safely access and work beneath robotic cells, including bending, kneeling, crouching, and crawling as needed for troubleshooting, commissioning, and repairs.
  • Ability to work at our Nisku facility and travel up to 25% to other facilities as needed
  • (Preferred) Hands-on experience applying AI tools to automation and controls engineering such as code generation, troubleshooting, or optimizing control logic.
  • (Preferred) Experience in integrating Kuka robots is a great asset
  • (Preferred) Experience with electrical system design implementation in compliance with electrical standards
  • (Preferred) Programming experience in Python, SQL or similar language

Benefits:

Competitive salary: we believe in data-driven, equitable compensation decisions. We recently completed a compensation review and implemented salary bands that enable us to pay mid to above-average Canadian salaries across various industries.

Stock options: everyone has a stake in our company.

Holistic benefits: we have a comprehensive benefits package that includes paramedical, dental, vision, and drug coverage for you and your dependents, as well as a health care spending account. These benefits start right from Day 1.

Flexible personal days and vacation policies: we care deeply about the well-being of our team.

Open, collaborative, and supportive culture: you will be part of an incredibly high-performing and collaborative team changing the future of an industry!

Relocation assistance package (if required)
