Job Title: Material Handler
Job Description
This role supports a steel track manufacturing operation by safely moving heavy materials and ensuring welders and assemblers receive the components they need to keep production running smoothly. You will handle large steel tracks using forklifts and hoists, work both indoors and outdoors, and operate in a busy weld shop environment with noise, dust, and smoke.
Responsibilities
- Support welders and assemblers by delivering steel tracks and materials to production areas in a timely and accurate manner.
- Safely handle and move heavy steel tracks, including pieces weighing up to approximately 700 pounds using forklifts and hoists.
- Operate propane and electric counterbalance forklifts to transport materials within the facility and yard.
- Use hoists and cranes to lift and position large steel tracks in accordance with safety procedures and training.
- Perform light indoor and outdoor material handling tasks as required to support production flow.
- Assist with basic inventory-related tasks such as picking and packing materials when needed.
- Follow all safety guidelines, including proper use of lifting equipment and personal protective equipment.
- Communicate effectively with the other material handler, welders, and production team to coordinate material movement.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe and efficient operations.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience working as a material handler in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Ability to operate counterbalance forklifts (propane and electric) safely and confidently.
- Ability to perform hoist and basic crane work after receiving safety training.
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds manually as part of daily duties.
- Comfort working in a loud weld shop environment with noise, dust, and smoke.
- Reliability and strong attention to safety when handling heavy materials and operating equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous hoist and crane operating experience.
- Experience with inventory, picking, packing, and production support activities.
- Certified counterbalance forklift operator status is an asset but not required, as training can be provided.
- Willingness to complete company-provided safety and equipment training as scheduled.
Work Environment
You will work in a small weld shop with a total of about eight people on the manufacturing floor, including one other material handler and a team of welders. The shift runs from 6:45 . to 3:00 . The environment is loud and can be dusty and smoky due to welding activities, so you must be comfortable working in these conditions with appropriate protective equipment. The role involves both indoor and light outdoor work, frequent use of propane and electric counterbalance forklifts, and regular use of hoists and cranes for lifting heavy steel tracks
