Job description

Company:

Pario Engineering & Environmental Sciences LP - SciencesForensic Materials Engineer - Insurance Industry, HYBRID (Concord, ON)Salary range: $80,300.00 - $111,500.00 annually

We have an existing opportunity to add a Forensic Materials Engineer to our Collision Reconstruction Team! By joining a highly creative, collaborative and experienced team like Pario, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct root cause material failure investigations to support insurance and legal proceedings across various commercial, industrial, residential, and product industries.

The candidate will develop their problem-solving skills and technical background in materials science and mechanical engineering to determine the failure mechanism, cause, and contributing factors of losses involving water leaks and flooding, fuel oil releases, building damage, vehicle collisions, mechanical breakdown, fires, personal injuries, and more.

This role is intended for an early-career materials engineer who is on track for P.Eng. licensure, and it requires a willingness to travel.

Role Responsibilities:

The work involves managing full end-to-end failure investigations to provide objective, scientific answers to clients. Activities may include:

  • Lead projects from start to finish, ensuring that timelines stay on track
  • Communicating directly with clients to confirm project scope, budget, scheduling, and findings
  • Assess, analyze and report on the origin and cause of material failures
  • Interview witnesses and service personnel, and obtain background information and documentation on a loss
  • Attend sites and document evidence with photographs, measurements, and detailed notes
  • Conduct materials characterization and analysis, including non-destructive and destructive laboratory examinations of evidence
  • Provide verbal and written reports to clients

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Materials/Mechanical Engineering
  • Graduate level degree in Materials Engineering or Materials Science is an asset
  • Professional Engineering License or the ability to become licensed in the province of Ontario is a requirement
  • Must have a valid G license, access to a vehicle, and the ability to work in remote areas, as well as in a range of temperatures and weather conditions
  • In-depth knowledge of materials science (metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites), microscopy (optical, digital, and scanning electron), fractography, metallography, microstructure analysis, mechanical property testing, and other materials characterization, with hands-on materials laboratory experience preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude for component disassembly and/or machine shop experience is an asset
  • Experience conducting technical literature reviews
  • Proficiency in digital photography to document sites and evidence
  • Ability to produce neat and legible handwritten notes, diagrams and sketches
  • Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office (MS Word, Outlook & Excel)
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills, and a good command of the English language
  • Well-organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and set priorities to meet deadlines, and a demonstrated track record of taking projects to successful completion
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to discuss project budgets with clients and maintain continuous communications throughout a project
  • A positive, self-driven attitude with a willingness to learn and collaborate with colleagues

What We Offer:

Your success matters to us, and we believe in rewarding high performance with meaningful financial incentives and career growth opportunities. Some of the perks of this role include:

  • Full access to Pario’s materials laboratory, featuring SEM/EDX, a Keyence digital microscope, sectioning, mounting and polishing equipment, hardness testers, and more
  • Work-life balance with hybrid work opportunities – a balance of laboratory work at our facility, field work at loss sites, joint examinations of evidence at third-party facilities, and freedom for work from home/office otherwise
  • Training and Career Development Opportunities
  • E-flex Health Benefits Program
  • Wellness Programs
  • Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) matching
  • Employee Referral Bonuses
  • Employee Recognition Program
  • Employee Perks (access to vendor discount programs)
  • Reimbursement for Professional Licenses and Dues
  • Competitive Compensation: $80,300.00 - $111,500.00 CAD Annual
