The Opportunity

Do you enjoy solving problems, coordinating moving parts, and keeping people informed in a fast-paced environment? DeVry Greenhouses is looking for a proactive, organized, and solutions-focused Dispatcher to join our Logistics team. The Dispatcher will oversee daily transportation activities, provide direction and support to drivers, and serve as the primary communication link between drivers, operations, customers, and supporting departments. The successful candidate will be comfortable making decisions under pressure, adjusting plans when challenges arise, and building positive working relationships across the organization.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Plan and coordinate daily transportation operations, including driver schedules, load assignments, appointments, and resource allocation.

  • Ensure deliveries, pickups, product movements, intercompany transfers, and other transportation requests are completed safely and on time.

  • Respond to delays, reroutes, service disruptions, customer requests, severe weather, and other operational challenges.

  • Provide day-to-day direction and support to drivers by communicating expectations, assigning work, resolving concerns, and reinforcing company standards.

  • Build positive relationships with drivers through respectful communication, coaching, recognition, active listening, and consistent follow-through.

  • Maintain clear communication with drivers, customers, internal departments, the Dispatch Assistant, and the Logistics Manager.

  • Monitor fleet availability, equipment utilization, vehicle defects, and maintenance requirements.

  • Work collaboratively with Fleet Maintenance to support equipment reliability and availability.

  • Assist with driver recruitment, onboarding, training, workforce planning, development, and performance management.

  • Support third-party carrier relationships and transportation asset administration.

  • Forecast transportation requirements and align driver, fleet, and carrier capacity with business

    needs.

  • Optimize routes, schedules, fleet utilization, and transportation resources to improve productivity,

    service, safety, and cost performance.

  • Review operational results and identify opportunities to improve transportation processes and

    fleet effectiveness.

  • Maintain driver qualifications, compliance records, and other required transportation

    documentation.

  • Coordinate the operational response to incidents, accidents, emergencies, vehicle defects, and

    service interruptions.

  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three to five years of experience in transportation dispatching, fleet coordination,

    logistics, or a related transportation leadership position.

  • Strong understanding of transportation operations, routing, scheduling, fleet utilization, and driver

    coordination.

  • Experience coordinating drivers, equipment, and transportation resources in a fast-paced and

    time-sensitive environment.

  • Understanding of route optimization, overtime control, fleet productivity, operational efficiency,

    and transportation cost management.

  • Experience assisting with employee hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, or performance

    management is considered an asset.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to review operational information, identify trends, and

    support effective decision-making.

  • Excellent communication, organization, time-management, and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to prioritize competing demands, maintain attention to detail, and make sound decisions

    under pressure.

  • Professional, adaptable, and calm when responding to service disruptions, emergencies, and

    unexpected operational challenges.

Total Rewards

  • We offer a competitive compensation package based on education, experience, and demonstrated performance.

  • Hourly compensation $30 - $36 per hour (based on experience)
