Job Title: Material Handler

Job Summary

The Material Handler plays a key role in safely and efficiently handling, packaging, and shipping materials in an industrial environment. This position requires operating various types of forklifts and overhead cranes, coordinating shipping documentation, and working closely with a tight‑knit team to meet daily production and shipping goals. Safety, teamwork, and attention to detail are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform pre‑use inspections to ensure all equipment is safe and compliant with worksite requirements.
• Safely operate side loader Combi and Hubtex stand‑up forklifts, counterbalance forklifts, and overhead cranes.
• Package materials for shipment using proper protection methods, including wood, plastic, steel, or plastic banding.
• Move and stage materials using overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Process shipping orders and documentation through the internal system.
• Load outbound trucks using forklifts and overhead cranes.
• Collaborate effectively with a team of approximately nine employees.
• Prepare packaging materials and staged orders for the following day.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area through regular housekeeping.
• Participate in cross‑training opportunities, including saw cutting, shipping, and receiving.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures at all times.

Essential Skills & Experience

• 1–2 years of side drive or counterbalance forklift experience.
• Previous experience in general labor or production roles.
• Experience with shipping and/or packaging in an industrial setting.
• Ability to accurately read and use an imperial tape measure.
• Hands‑on material handling experience in an industrial warehouse environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications (Assets)

• Experience in a steel or heavy industrial environment.
• Overhead crane (OHC) operating experience.
• Inventory management experience.
• Valid First Aid certification (Level 1, 2, or 3), with compensation provided.

Work Environment

• Combination of indoor and outdoor work.
• Approximately 50% equipment operation and 50% manual material handling.
• Standard shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with potential transition to 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM.
• Small team environment of around nine employees.
• Unionized workplace with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Delta, BC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.31 - $27.31/hr.
