Job description

DEFINITION:

Under the direction of the Executive Assistant/Office Manager (or designate), and the operational direction of the Officer in Charge, when required, this position provides support services to the members of the Terrace RCMP detachment and delivers information and services to the general public. The incumbent is responsible to assess and respond to enquiries and complaints from the general public, external partners, and agencies. This role also includes a variety of clerical duties, and the integrity and maintenance of information in the PRIME system, requiring a high degree of accuracy, organization, interpersonal and communication skills.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  1. Respond to non-emergency telephone complaints and enquiries from the general public, external partners and agencies, using a multi-line phone system.
  2. Handles and processes non-emergency public front counter complaints and enquiries.
  3. Generates files for dispatch to RCMP members.
  4. Maintains radio contact with police, providing pertinent information in support of police and public safety.
  5. Performs RCMP detachment reception duties under the supervision of the Office Manager.
  6. Processes civil fingerprints according to guidelines and policies on a rotational basis.
  7. Processes and responds to basic disclosure requests from external partners, outside agencies, and the public.
  8. Receives and records found property from the general public at the front counter.
  9. Maintains files in PRIME RMS, conducting quality reviews ensuring compliance with legislative, national, divisional, district, and detachment policies and procedures.
  10. Provides administrative and operational support to the detachment, ensuring duties are performed in accordance with RCMP policy.
  11. Adds, deletes, modified, non-court related CPIC information and monitors the CPIC V-mails system on a rotational basis.
  12. Transcribes digitally recorded statements which may involve sensitive or distressing content, using applicable software.
  13. Provides backup exhibit support.
  14. Participates in training sessions as determined by the Office Manager.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Secondary school graduate;
  2. Minimum two (2) years related office experience, preferably in the legal or policing field;
  3. RCMP Enhanced Reliability Clearance;
  4. Demonstrated ability to operate office equipment;
  5. Accurate typing speed of 60 w.p.m.;
  6. Good working knowledge of networked computer systems including Windows, word processing, and transcription software;
  7. Ability to work independently and complete tasks and assignments under pressure and within time constraints.
  8. Ability to deal courteously with co-workers and the public, including less desirable, potentially violent, threatening, and/or infectious individuals;
  9. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
  10. Valid Class 5 BC Drivers Licence.
