Job description

Pioneer the Future of Precision as our next Senior InertialEngineer -Navigation and InertialSystems

Are you ready to revolutionize global industries by mastering the next generation of MEMS inertial sensor technologies?

Join Trimble Applanix to design, characterize, and optimize cutting-edge navigation solutions that power world-class machine control and remote sensing applications, transforming how the physical and digital worlds connect through relentless innovation and precise data analytics.

About Us:

Trimble is a global technology company that connects the physical and digital worlds, transforming the ways work gets done. With relentless innovation in precise positioning, modeling and data analytics, Trimble enables essential industries including construction, geospatial and transportation. Whether it's helping customers build and maintain infrastructure, design and construct buildings, optimize global supply chains or map the world, Trimble is at the forefront, driving productivity and progress.

Trimble Applanix: The Trimble Applanix Team specializes in building industry-leading GNSS-aided inertial technology and mobile positioning solutions for sensors and vehicles. By leveraging a deep expertise in inertial manufacturing and sensor fusion, we deliver high-precision direct georeferencing for imaging devices and handle complex systems integrations. Our capabilities extend from real-time processing to post-mission mobile mapping, providing a comprehensive ecosystem of software and hardware designed for elite geospatial performance. If it drives, flies, or floats, our tailored positioning solutions get people moving in the right direction!

Field Systems: The Trimble Field Systems segment provides solutions to increase precision and productivity in construction tasks by empowering stakeholders to collect accurate information and manage conditions with cutting-edge technology.

What Makes This Role Great:

In this role, you will be at the forefront of developing next-generation MEMS-based inertial measurement units, directly influencing the accuracy of global machine control systems and shaping the future of autonomous positioning technology.

Key Exciting Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead the development and commercialization of new MEMS-based inertial measurement units from concept to real-world application.

  • Mastermind complex error modeling and simulation studies to enhance the performance of aided-Inertial Navigation Systems.

  • Drive innovation by exploring new capabilities for MEMS technologies in high-impact vehicle dynamic and vibration testing environments.

  • Design and optimize sophisticated positioning and pointing algorithms for both real-time and post-processing software suites.

  • Collaborate with elite product teams to define requirements and deliver high-precision solutions for global surveying and sensing.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven expertise in C/C++, Java, Matlab, and Python for complex algorithms and software development.

  • Deep technical knowledge of MEMS inertial sensors and their specific integration into Machine Control systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in highly agile environments using modern tools like Git and Atlassian.

Education & Credential Requirements:

  • Advanced Degree: Master’s (MASc/MSc) or PhD in Engineering, Applied Science, Physics, or a highly quantitative, related field.

  • Core Specializations of Interest: Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering/Science, Geomatics Engineering, Mechatronics, Earth & Space Science, Control Systems Theory, or Applied Physics.

Don’t perfectly match the exact education listed? If your graduate research, thesis, or coursework heavily involved sensor technologies, advanced algorithms, or related technical domains, your skills are highly transferable. We welcome diverse technical backgrounds and encourage you to apply!

Bonus Points For:

  • Hands-on experience with rate tables and advanced lab instrumentation for sensor characterization.

  • Prior success in system-level integration for mobile mapping or direct georeferencing solutions.

Logistics:

Location: Richmond Hill, Ontario (in-office)

Travel Requirement: Minimal/Occasional (conferences and technical meetings)
