The City of Penticton's Fire Services Department is looking to fill the position of Fire Prevention Inspector I . This is a responsible, technical and clerical position of relative complexity involving general fire prevention, inspections and fire investigations, and is immediately responsible to the Fire Inspection Officer and directly responsible to the Fire Chief. Although subject to the requirement of written orders, regulations and verbal directives from a superior(s), considerable latitude is permitted for independent judgment within authority invested.
An employee of this classification assists superiors in research and may be called upon to assist in training and instructing company officers and firefighters who have been assigned to and / or are carrying out company type fire prevention inspections in fire prevention techniques and procedures. They may also be called upon to train and instruct such officers and firefighters on subjects relative to fire investigation.
The successful incumbent may accompany fire suppression evolutions for the purpose of fire investigations, and for that purpose may request a company officer or firefighter in charge to put firefighters under their direction for the overhaul of the original and adjacent areas of fire, secure the area or building, witness the scene, interrogation, and removal of evidence. The incumbent will wear an SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) as operationally required.

- Fire Service Instructor I (NFPA-1041-10)
- Fire Inspector I (NFPA-1031-10)
- BC Building Code : Part 3 Introduction (BCIT BLDG 1830)
- BC Fire Code for the Fire Service
- Fire Investigator : Fire Cause & Origin I
- Incident Command System 100
