Job description

Job Summary:

The Cost Estimator will be responsible for analyzing project requirements, reviewing technical drawings, and preparing accurate cost estimates for fabricated components and assemblies. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of fabrication processes, materials, labor, and overhead costs to ensure competitive and profitable pricing.

Key Responsibilities:Review technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand project scope

  • Calculate material, labor, and production costs for custom fabrication projects
  • Obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for raw materials and outsourced work
  • Prepare detailed estimates and present them to management or customers
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and sales teams to ensure accuracy in pricing and feasibility
  • Track and update cost data and material pricing regularly
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and suggest value engineering alternatives
  • Assist in preparing bid proposals and responding to RFQs
  • Maintain organized records of estimates and bid documentation

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Cost Estimator, ideally in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes including welding, cutting, bending, and assembly
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings
  • Excellent math and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or ERP systems is a plus)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • High school diploma required, associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with estimating software and ERP systems
  • Familiarity with industry standards and fabrication materials (e.g., steel, aluminum, stainless)
  • Background in project management or production planning is an asset
