JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Electrical and Control Technician - Electrician.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Maintenance, this position is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting generating-station electrical/control/protection/telecom systems by performing preventive maintenance, inspections, commissioning, and standards-based testing to ensure safe, reliable operation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Perform preventative maintenance tasks and actively participate in the periodic teardown and internal inspection of major equipment and sub components.
• Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, service, maintain and overhaul and assist with the design for all electrical/ electronic/control/protection/telecommunication or testing equipment, associated with generating stations and facilities.
• Prepare electrical, control, instrumentation, protection and telecommunication sketches, drawings, and bills of material.
• Carry out a variety of measurements including testing of electrical equipment to recognized standards and procedures.
• Determine generating system reliability and power system production.
• Participate in studies associated with energy production, load and capacity, demand management, etc., and provide regular and on-demand reports. Establish and maintain documentation / program files.
• Provide technical support, advice, coordination and assistance with regard to emerging work, projects and daily routines, including the development of technical/operational solutions to problems.

EDUCATION

• Have a minimum grade 12 or equivalent

QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid Certificate of Qualification (442A or 309A)
• Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) certification will be an asset
• Willing to work rotating 12-hour shifts (weekends/holidays)
• Eligible to work in Canada and Canadian equivalency for foreign education, if applicable
• Strong problem-solving, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; tech/computer comfortable; self-starter
• Safety/environmental compliance focus; Health and Safety experience an asset
• Technical: documentation/records, interpret drawings/manuals/tools, troubleshoot, PLC experience
• Radiation/contamination control knowledge; pass Radiation Protection training/exams
• Physical: heights/harness, confined spaces, hot/cold; lift 50 lb; forklift/elevated work platforms; valid Ontario G license is an asset
