MKO is seeking a Community Reintegration Navigator to support, engage and focus on the needs of youth being released from custody. Reporting to the Kakiskinawtahitonan Youth Justice Initiative (KYJI) Program Coordinator, the Community Reintegration Navigator will connect youth with community programs and resources that will support the youth, family and community on the path to reunification and reintegration. As part of a collaborative team, the Community Reintegration Navigator will engage with cultural supports and services and facilitate overall coordination of the youth’s reintegration to their families and communities as part of their healing pathway.
The MKO Kakiskinawtahitonan Youth Justice Initiative delivers interventions and supports that are culturally responsive to the unique and complex needs of youth, families and communities. As Manitoba’s Social Impact Bond (SIB) to address youth justice involvement, KYJI aims to decrease the number of days Manitoba’s youth spend in custody, while increasing connections to their culture and identity.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Engages with youth, families, and communities to build trust and rapport as part of the High-Fidelity Wraparound / Healing Pathway process.
- Builds positive relationships with youth, families and communities to identify personal strengths to promote growth, self-worth, and a sense of belonging.
- Supports navigation of the youth’s reintegration path with families and communities by focusing and supporting the needs of the youth.
- Navigates and identifies culturally responsive strategies and interventions as part of youth healing pathway.
- Works collaboratively with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to support Indigenous cultural programming to pass on traditional knowledge and cultural practices, strengthening the youth’s bond and connection within their families and communities.
- Engages in behaviour management, intervening in crisis situations as needed / required.
- Navigates access to existing supports and resources in the community, including cultural / spiritual supports, education, employment / training, housing, health, legal etc.
- Observes, evaluates, and documents youth engagement to ensure continuity and consistency in healing planning and implementation, and other documentation as required.
- Maintains accurate and objective notes, documentation, and files.
- Transports and accompanies youth / parents / caregivers when needed.
- Demonstrates an active commitment towards professional growth and advancement through participation in training, workshops, etc.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to engage and support MKO programs and member nations.
Education and Experience
Salary is dependant upon qualifications and experience.
