About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Early Years, the Early Years Consultant provides advanced knowledge, leadership and coordination of public health work force development in the area of the early years. The position is responsible to work with the team and manager to strengthen skills, competencies and achievement amongst the public health team members focused on the early years.

The Consultant provides an expert level of advice to support and coordinate consistent and quality practice across the zone. The incumbent provides guidance, coordination and direction to staff to ensure alignment with established standards of practice, operational requirements and scientific developments. The incumbent also provides recommendations to the manager on quality initiatives and work practice changes or work force distribution to optimize efficiency.

The position works closely with public health staff, zone leadership, other NSHA consultants and leaders, local stakeholders and system and external partners to ensure consistent, effective and positive health outcomes for children aged 0-5. The Consultant demonstrates commitment to equity, social justice and self-determination to create supportive environments for the early years.

The Consultant collaborates with system and external partners, identifies and monitors key indicators, and supports knowledge exchange across the health system and other sectors. The Consultant spends time on a daily and weekly basis monitoring trends and gathering local evidence to inform process and operational improvements to early years programming across the zone.

The Consultant provides leadership and advanced knowledge in programs, policies, standards, models and strategies to promote and support the development of healthy development to reduce health inequities in the early years.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Baccalaureate degree in public health sciences, nutrition, health education and health promotion, nursing, early childhood or relevant field with 5-7 years relevant experience
  • Masters in public health, or equivalent with 3-5 years relevant experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and 7 years progressive leadership experience may be considered
  • Eligible for registration with a professional body as appropriate
  • Experience in planning, development and evaluation of public health programs, services and initiatives based on community assessments, data and best practice models for the early years.
  • Demonstrated success in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to support early years work.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations including the NS Health Protection Act, NS Health Authorities Act etc.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in LEADS
  • Demonstrated high standards of ethics, integrity, respect, accountability and upholding the public interest, and ability to use them effectively in decision-making.
  • Leadership skills consisting of team building, conflict resolution, goal setting, coaching, mentoring, delegation, change-leadership.

Hours

  • Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
  • Travel to various sites within Eastern Zone may be required based on operational needs.

Compensation and Benefits

$39.29 - $52.21 Hourly
