Job description

The Hardware Technician play a central role in the delivery of our hardware products to customers. Your contribution to the Delivery team is execution: the hands-on work of getting hardware built, tested, and shipped. You are the primary individual accountable for the day-to-day production of Reusables' hardware and are measured against output and quality: units assembled correctly and products shipped reliably.

You work under the Hardware Production Lead and are responsible for keeping production moving - building our hardware products to spec, catching issues before they ship, shipping on time, and keeping the lab and records in order. You love working with your hands, have strong organizational skills, and a keen eye for detail.

Hardware Assembly

  • Build IoT devices and related hardware sub-assemblies, including our Smart Return Bins, Checkout Devices, Scan Return Stations, and Smart Media Displays.
  • Follow detailed assembly instructions while maintaining quality and precision
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic assembly issues as they arise

Support in Product Improvements

  • Assist in troubleshooting occasional non-standard issues that fall outside documented assembly procedures, applying judgment and problem-solving rather than escalating by default
  • Contribute observations from the production floor that surface design or reliability improvements

Testing and Quality Assurance

  • Conduct functional and performance testing on hardware products
  • Document and report test results, identifying any quality concerns
  • Verify and ship to the quality standards set by the Hardware Production Lead, working independently within those protocols
  • Collaborate with the Hardware Production Lead and Solutions Lead to improve product performance

Lab Organization and Maintenance

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient hardware lab
  • Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and calibrated

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of procurement, assembly, and testing activities
  • Provide regular updates on project status and supply chain challenges

What Good Looks Like

  • Builds consistently and to spec - quality doesn't waver across the 1st unit or the 100th
  • Keeps components ahead of production, so a build is never waiting on a part that should have been ordered
  • Works confidently within the Hardware Production Lead's quality protocols - ships without needing a sign-off on every unit, and knows when something genuinely needs escalating
  • Brings ingenuity to non-standard problems rather than waiting to be told
  • Keeps the lab and the records in a state where anyone could walk in and find what they need
  • Flags supply chain or quality issues early, not after they've caused a delay
  • Treats the kanban system and inventory tracking as the source of truth, and keeps it accurate

Requirements

  • Hands-on hardware experience focused on production.
  • Proven ability to manage a hardware product through its full build-and-ship lifecycle
  • Track record of following repeatable processes, maintaining the same quality on the 10th and 100th unit.
  • Strong testing, quality assurance, and reliability discipline
  • Strong documentation habits and attention to detail
  • Based in or able to work in person in Vancouver, BC (this is a local, in-person role)

Benefits

  • Health & dental benefits
  • Outdoor prolink membership for discounted outdoor gear
  • Unlimited vacation policy
