Ross Memorial Hospital (RMH)

Ross Memorial Hospital (RMH) is an active, acute-care community hospital located in the heart of the City of Kawartha Lakes. Among our acute and continuing care services, our team cares for 45,000 patients per year in the 24/7/365 emergency department, provides orthopedics and ophthalmology, operates a dialysis unit, and is renowned for its mental health programs and restorative seniors care. Department/Unit/Program Description

The goal of Ross Memorial Hospital's Infection Prevention and Control program is the prevention of infections in Hospital patients and staff and the control of infections should they occur.

To prevent the spread/transmission of infections to other patients, staff and the hospital environment, it is sometimes necessary to place patients in Isolation Precautions. This may mean relocating the patient to a special isolation room, with an Isolation Precautions sign placed at the entrance to alert all staff, doctors and visitors that they must wear a gown and gloves or a mask (depending on the infection or bacteria).

Position Summary

The Department of Infection Prevention & Control is currently seeking a Temporary Part-Time Infection Control Practitioner Nurse to join their team.

Effective Date: November 16, 2026

Ending on or before Date: May 16, 2027

The Infection Control Department Is Seeking a Registered Nurse Who Have Interest In / Passion For Infection Prevention And Control; To Assist In Implementing And Maintaining An Effective And Progressive Infection Prevention And Control Program

Conduct surveillance activities according to established criteria and evidence-based research
Collect and input data into the computer
Provide consultation to all clinical and non-clinical areas on matters of infection prevention and control
Provide education in-services to staff, physicians and volunteers on infection prevention and control precautions
Conduct infection control compliance audits, monitor actions, recommend strategies. Direct healthcare workers as necessary to create positive outcomes
Keep current with infection control literature, standards, and guidelines
Investigate: participate in outbreak investigations and implement interventions to control the outbreak situations

Essential Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN); current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing
Experience working in a clinical area for at least three (3) years
IPAC Certification or currently enrolled with commitment to completion within 6 months
Demonstrated strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated knowledge and application of the principles of adult education
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, combined with knowledge of patient care practices, asepsis, infection control issues, outbreak investigation, surveillance and research techniques
Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively and effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
Demonstrated working knowledge of computer word processing and patient and lab information systems

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum one year working in Infection Prevention and Control preferred

Hours of Work

Must be available to work all shifts, Monday to Sunday. Shift hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the ONA collective agreement.
