JOB PURPOSE
The Technician III operates various pieces of engineering lab equipment to verify the requirements and measurements of various automotive chassis components. This role is responsible for updating and delivering the results of all tests and measurements as well as storing and managing the data. In addition this role is responsible for creating CAD models from 3D laser scans.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform measurements and tests as per the engineering requirements by operating the following equipment :
- FARO Arm with 3D Laser Scanner Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)
- Creaform HandySCAN Scanner
- Contour Measuring Instrument
- Surface Roughness Measuring Instrument
- Universal Tensile Testing Machine
- Rotational Torque Measuring Machine
- Hardness Testing Machine
- Shadowgraph Machine
- Ultimaker 3D Printer
- XRF Material Analyzer
Perform CMM measurements using Faro Arm on benchmark samples / production samples capturing all critical measurements and create CMM report
Review CMM report and technical drawings and provide feedback to engineers on deviations
Create parametric CAD model by 3D laser scanning benchmark samples and completely reverse engineer part using Geomagic Design X and Autodesk Inventor
Perform contour trace using the Contour Measurement Instrument capturing all critical measurements and provide feedback to engineers
Perform surface roughness test using the Surface Roughness Measuring Instrument
Assist and perform various tests (Push-out Pull-Out Axial and Radial Displacement) using the Universal Tensile Testing Machine
Perform rotational torque test using Rotational Torque Measuring Machine and analyzing the data to ensure it is correct
Perform and assist measuring hardness using the Hardness Testing Machine
Visually inspect samples using Shadowgraph Machine
Set up models in Cura and 3D print models using Ultimaker 3D Printer
Perform material analysis using XRF Material Analyzer and analyzing the data to ensure it is correct
Create and assist in creating fixtures in CAD
Analyze and validate the test output / results and create / maintain output reports
Assist in finding solutions to critical specification deviations and provide suggestions for ways to improve the product to meet specifications
Provide feedback to engineers on samples testing and measurement data
Create and improve SOP documents for all lab equipment and procedures
Analyzing similar products and identifying if they are the same or there are any key differences
QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
College diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technologist or related experience
1 to 3 years of experience in the automotive industry
Experience in the field of lab testing and measurements & GD&T
Must be experienced with Autodesk Inventor AutoCAD or similar 2D & 3D CAD software
Must be experienced with CMM (Faro Arm)
Experience with 3D laser scanning is an asset
Experience with Polyworks Geomagic Design X or similar metrology software is an asset
Experienced with reverse engineering is an asset
Experience with 3D printing is an asset
Knowledge of Mechanical Testing (Tensile Compression Axial Radial and Hardness) is an asset
Knowledge of Material Analysis is an asset
Must have excellent communication skills written verbal and presentation.
Must have the ability to work in a deadline-oriented lab environment with cross functional teams.
Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities
Must be a team player
