Job Title: Forklift OperatorJob DescriptionThis role involves safely loading and unloading steel shipments, operating propane and electric forklifts, and supporting daily warehouse operations in a steel distribution environment. You will handle heavy loads, prepare orders for shipment, and occasionally operate an overhead crane while working closely with a small, collaborative warehouse team.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload trucks carrying steel between the hours of 7:00 . and 10:00 ., typically handling 20–30 skids of steel per truck.
- Operate propane and electric forklifts to move, stage, and organize steel loads, selecting the appropriate equipment based on load size and weight.
- Perform shipping and receiving tasks, including verifying incoming and outgoing shipments and ensuring products are handled safely and accurately.
- Pick and pack orders throughout the day to prepare shipments for the next day, following order specifications and schedules.
- Band product securely to skids to ensure safe and stable transport for outgoing shipments.
- Use an overhead crane, when required, to move larger or heavier steel loads safely and efficiently.
- Assist with general warehouse tasks, including organizing inventory, maintaining a clean and orderly work area, and supporting production as needed.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines when operating forklifts, cranes, and other equipment, and report any hazards or equipment issues promptly.
- Collaborate with team members in the warehouse and production area to ensure orders are completed accurately and on time.
Essential Skills- At least 3+ years of forklift operating experience, ideally handling loads as heavy as 10,000 lbs.
- Proven ability to safely operate propane and electric forklifts in a warehouse or production environment.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs independently on an occasional basis.
- Capability to lift up to 100 lbs with the assistance of another employee.
- Experience working in a warehouse environment handling loading, unloading, and inventory-related tasks.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and operate heavy equipment with a strong focus on safe work practices.
- Strong attention to detail when handling, staging, and preparing steel products for shipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Overhead crane experience is an asset.
- Experience working in steel, metals, or similar heavy industrial environments is beneficial.
- Comfort working with inventory and basic shipping and receiving processes.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small team in a production and warehouse setting.

Work Environment
The role is based in a warehouse and production area within a newer, larger facility located in Cambridge. The company cuts and distributes steel across North America and currently has a small warehouse and production team of about five people, with plans to add more staff. You will work around steel products, skids, and heavy loads, using propane and electric forklifts and, at times, an overhead crane. The environment is hands-on, physical, and safety-focused, with work structured around morning truck deliveries followed by order preparation for the next day. Expect a collaborative atmosphere where team members support one another in a close-knit setting.
