Job Description

This role involves assembling large custom industrial crates and corrugated packaging components in a bright, clean manufacturing shop. You will work from shop drawings and saw cards to build bases, lids, ends, shelves, and complete crate structures using hand and power tools. The position requires consistent attention to detail, safe use of equipment, and the ability to work efficiently as part of a collaborative production team.

Responsibilities

• Assemble large industrial crates, typically 10 feet long and 4 feet wide and deep, for custom packaging projects.
• Build crate components such as bases, lids, ends, and shelves using nail guns, impact drivers, screws, and other hand and power tools.
• Install hinges and other hardware accurately to ensure crates function and close properly.
• Assemble crate walls and complete crate structures according to shop drawings and saw cards.
• Read and interpret basic shop drawings, blueprints, and saw cards to determine dimensions, materials, and assembly sequence.
• Use a tape measure confidently and accurately to verify dimensions and ensure components meet specifications.
• Rotate as needed to support cutting lumber to size using table saws and other woodworking equipment.
• Follow established manufacturing and safety procedures while working with wood, tools, and machinery.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to support a safe and efficient production environment.
• Collaborate with other assemblers and shop staff to meet production targets and support a team-oriented culture.
• Lift, move, and position materials and finished products, including handling items up to 50 lbs as required.
• Be available for overtime when needed, including occasional Saturday work, to support production demands.

Essential Skills

• Experience working with wood in environments such as basic carpentry, construction, or crating.
• Proficiency using hand and power tools, including nail guns, impact drivers, and saws.
• Ability to read and interpret basic shop drawings and blueprints.
• Comfortable and accurate using a tape measure for measurements and verification.
• Experience working in a manufacturing or construction setting.
• Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs as part of daily duties.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and visual instructions.
• Reliability and willingness to work scheduled shifts and required overtime.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Woodworking experience in a production, construction, or packaging environment.
• Basic carpentry skills, including cutting, fitting, and assembling wood components.
• Familiarity with reading saw cards or similar production documentation.
• Comfort working with table saws and other woodworking machinery under proper safety guidelines.
• Previous experience assembling crates, pallets, or industrial packaging is an asset.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced shop environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a bright, clean, non-unionized manufacturing shop within a large facility. The shop is small but growing, with approximately 18 assemblers working alongside on-site engineering and sales teams. The culture emphasizes teamwork, collaboration, and a supportive atmosphere, with regular BBQs and company events that foster a positive and engaging work environment. All tools required for the job are provided, and employees may bring their own tools if they prefer. Day shift hours are Monday to Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with occasional Saturday overtime as needed. An afternoon shift runs Monday to Thursday from 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM. The environment focuses on safe operation of woodworking equipment and consistent production of high-quality industrial packaging.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mississauga, ON.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $20.25/hr.
