Trevor Frances Recruitment has partnered with a premier, vertically integrated Canadian manufacturer specializing in transforming raw materials into high-quality components for the bedding, home furnishing, and industrial markets. With over 50 years of industry stability and a massive North American footprint, our client is deeply committed to employee well-being, operational excellence, and workplace safety.
On behalf of our client, we are seeking a highly mobile and hands-on Project Engineer to lead a brand-new, critical corporate safety initiative. In this role, you will champion the technical engineering side of workplace ergonomics to directly eliminate Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) hazards and repetitive motion injuries.
This is not a desk job. You will serve as the roaming technical execution expert across the company's core Greater Toronto Area (GTA) manufacturing plants. Working in lockstep with the Health & Safety (EHS) team, you will translate injury data and ergonomic audits into physical, mechanical realities on the production floor.
Key Responsibilities
Multi-Site Project Management: Own and execute engineering projects from concept to final commissioning across the GTA plant network to eliminate high-frequency strains, awkward postures, and heavy lifting risks.
On-Site Plant Engineering: Spend significant time on active production floors auditing layouts, collaborating with plant supervisors, and managing project timelines.
EHS Action-Plan Execution: Partner with Health & Safety to analyze injury logs, identify mechanical or layout root causes, and build engineered interventions.
Ergonomic Retrofitting & Design: Utilize CAD software to design, modify, and implement physical workstation upgrades, conveyor re-routes, mechanical lifting assists, and custom manufacturing jigs.
Vendor & Procurement Coordination: Define technical specifications, source equipment, manage localized project budgets, and coordinate third-party trades during plant installations.
Management of Change (MOC): Ensure all engineered fixes undergo pre-start health and safety reviews and operator validation checks prior to standard production line integration.
Project Tracking: Maintain precise milestone scheduling across all active GTA site interventions, reporting structural project updates back to senior operations leadership.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
Experience: 3–5+ years of active experience as a Project Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or Field Engineer in a high-volume industrial plant setting.
Mobility: A valid Ontario G Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle to seamlessly support travel between facilities in North York, Brampton, and Vaughan.
Technical Skills: High proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) to draft line modifications and equipment retrofits.
Ergonomic Literacy: A strong foundational understanding of MSD hazard mapping and human biomechanics within heavy material handling or assembly environments.
Hands-on Attitude: Proven ability to collaborate with shop floor assembly operators, maintenance staff, and external contractors to build or troubleshoot mechanical fixes.
What’s in it for You?
Competitive annual base salary matching your industrial project experience
Structured mileage and travel reimbursement for inter-plant travel
Comprehensive Extended Health, Vision, and Dental care benefits packages
Life and Disability insurance options
