About Us :
Established in 2002, General Fusion is a global leader in the race to commercialize clean fusion energy. We are pursuing a uniquely practical approach, Magnetized Target Fusion, and aim to provide zero-carbon fusion power to the grid in the early to mid-2030s. Today at our state-of-the-art labs in Richmond, BC, we’re operating a groundbreaking fusion demonstration machine called Lawson Machine 26 (LM26), designed to achieve transformational technical milestones and accelerate General Fusion’s technology to commercialization. Our path to market is funded by a global syndicate of leading energy venture capital firms, industry leaders, and technology pioneers. Learn more at www.generalfusion.com.
Position Overview :
The Mechanical Engineer will design and build equipment in support of General Fusion’s LM26 project within a cross-functional team. The successful applicant will be expected to hit the ground running and thrive in a fast-paced and constantly evolving work environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated Mechanical Engineer looking for diverse and challenging work where ideas quickly become the prototypes and machines used by General Fusion to develop practical fusion energy solutions.
Responsibilities :
- Mechanical design for complex engineering challenges which require out-of-the-box thinking and novel concepts, including analytical calculations and FEA as required to validate designs
- Working with partners and suppliers in the design of key systems and components, often sourcing components that push the limits of fabrication and availability
- Design and build prototypes to mitigate the identified risks to project success
- Manage large SolidWorks assemblies in a multi-user environment and complete machine layouts
- As required, building, commissioning, and testing prototypes or complete mechanical systems, to experiment, test, debug and realize designs
- Documenting design details, test plans, and experimental results
- Contributing to the growth of the team through knowledge sharing, participating actively in design reviews, and assisting with development of right-sized processes
- Proactively contributing to a great work environment while championing safe work practices
Requirements :
The typical hiring range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000. General Fusion considers many factors when determining total compensation, including job-specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills and experience, proficiency, job location and internal equity.
