We are looking for an accounting student to join our Canada AP accounting team. The opportunity will provide a real-world experience at an international wood pellet company. Under the supervision of the Canadian AP team, you'll be working remotely and in the Vancouver office 2 days a week.
We are also very open to you working part-time until out of school and then working full time over the summer holidays, with flexible in the hours to fit with the project
You'll be responsible for the accurate processing and payment of invoices submitted on a daily basis from suppliers and internal employees. You'll assist with monitoring daily emails, performing weekly reports and monthly projects centered around the payables process.
This accounting team will be part of the new accounting software implementation project D365 supporting AP with the transition.
About the role
You'll be part of the D365 project implementation team supporting the AP in ensuring the new system is set up for AP appropriately.
Training the accounting system D365 to read the scanned invoices, and helping with automation of invoices
Working on data entry and clean up projects to ensure accurate data is transferred into the new accounting system.
Communicate with vendors and internal employees to resolve purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies when required.
Reconcile processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances
Perform invoice and general ledger data entry ensuring proper documentation of all transactions
Identify discrepancies by reconciling vendor statements and accounts, and follow up on GRNI reconciliations
Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities related to accounts payable as needed
Other administrative duties as assigned
What you'll need
You must either be enrolled and in the process of completing a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting
Proficient with computers and different finance software programs, including a strong knowledge of excel
Must have effective written and verbal communication skills to build strong interpersonal relationships
Have strong organization and time management skills with the ability to work without distraction
Must have completed introductory accounting courses and have a basic understanding of financial principles
Must have a very high sense of rigor to prevent any form of mistake that may occur in the process of documenting financial information
Must be a team player and motivated to learn with a strong desire to take on a new challenge
